I couldn’t be happier that our daughter chose Star Hill Ranch for her Memorial Day weekend wedding! Matt Wooley was gracious, helpful, supportive, and enthusiastic. In short, he took a personal interest in ensuring we all had the best possible experience at his property.
We utilized multiple areas that enhanced the entire experience for our guests and wedding party. The bridal party arrived at the Bride’s Cottage about 10:00 am to prepare and have brunch. The groom and his groomsmen gathered in the Cantina sometime early afternoon. Our guests began arriving about an hour before the ceremony where they were welcomed with beer and wine served under the oak trees in the “street” in front of the chapel, or the small side of the Fitzhugh Building for those that needed to be in the A/C. The ceremony was in the chapel where we had about 120 guests, seating with pews and chairs for about 100, and about 10-20 standing. It was cozy and intimate, but not uncomfortable for a relatively short ceremony. Then the guests moved to the small size of Fitzhugh for cocktail hour. Besides the fantastic antique bar, the caterer created two beautiful tables with appetizer presentations and an infused water table. There was a table with children’s activities like crayons and playdoh, a sitting area with beautiful vintage furniture rented through SHR, and an antique bureau that had family photos. Also in this beautiful space was a sign-in table with some vintage props also available through SHR. The guests were then ushered into the large side of Fitzhugh for dinner and dancing. We used the 10 round tables available with our rental package and added four beautiful farm tables to mix with the rounds to add interest. During the reception, a few guests went to the lovely front porches to visit and smoke cigars, even though it had started to rain by that time.
All the buildings are beautifully restored to best enhance the character of the original architecture. AND the air conditioning works extremely well, so don’t be concerned about the heat being a stumbling block for a typical Texas summer day.
Matt was available all evening, and our coordinator called on him once or twice to adjust the A/C, etc. I might recommend using a coordinator that has a lot of experience at this venue as it offers such a variety of spaces that can be utilized in very creative ways that is probably discovered mostly by experience. I also recommend renting any necessary dishes/glasses/linens through Matt for convenience regarding deliveries and pickups.
Our guests are still talking about how interesting and charming this venue was for a wedding. While Star Hill Ranch looks very rustic at first appearance, our daughter’s wedding was a bit casual, a bit vintage, yet with some classy elegance thrown in for good measure. I have no doubt that an extremely elegant event could be created in the spaces at...
Read moreWe found Star Hill Ranch online and by much accident. Nadia (my now wife) and I had talked about getting married for a long time and had our own visions of getting married on our own property. We were strong believers that wedding venues were impersonal and overpriced. In fact, we didn’t start searching for a venue in order to get married there, we searched for a venue in order to gauge pricing and convince ourselves that we were right, and we needed to invest in our own property to have a more personal wedding experience. Enter images of Star Hill: We were immediately captivated by the appearance of the venue and the use of the property. We decided to bite the bullet and go against our own personal opinions and tour the property. After meeting with the Woolley Brothers (Adam the owner and Matt the property manager), we walked away KNOWING that we didn’t want to get married anywhere else. In fact, to make sure we weren’t just getting overly excited about the potential wedding location, we visited a few other similar and highly rated venues to compare to Star Hill Ranch, and the take back was what we had always thought- impersonal, ‘just another number’ for that particular venue, feeling like a we were just a ‘paycheck’ to the property. Adam and Matt have created a space that can be manipulated to what your vision of what your special day is. Their crew is timely and focused, and dedicated to helping you set up your vision on your day in a stress-free manner. In fact, there had been a wedding the day before our wedding and Matt’s crew showed up at 7 am in order to finish the breakdown from that event, and begin the set up for our event. Within hours, our dream wedding started to take shape and the time to the “I do’s” arrived with no issues. Our wedding was beautiful and to our taste- “ROCK AND ROLL MEETS TEXAS COUNTRY” - and it was due in part to the aesthetic that Star Hill Ranch already provides. We couldn’t have chosen a better place to start our version of forever. We are extremely grateful to the amazing people at Star Hill Ranch, who insured from day one that our wedding would be “THE...
Read moreAs a very type A person, if I know I am about to drop some serious cash, I make sure I know what I’m doing. I researched 30 locations across Texas and painstakingly created detailed spreadsheets of all the amenities, costs, and requirements for my future wedding/reception venue. We visited the 5 top locations based on price, amenities, friendliness of staff, and location. To say that I am detail-oriented planner is an understatement; so, when I say that Star Hill Ranch checked all the boxes, I mean ALL the boxes. The location is beautiful and it is lovingly maintained with blooming flowers, outdoor spaces, and sun set backdrops fit for postcards. The space is set up to accommodate both indoor and outdoor weddings and receptions, which was a requirement for me, how unpredictable Texas weather can be. Case and point: I took 2 years to plan my outdoor wedding and reception. Guess what happened on the most important and likely most expensive day of our lives… why yes. Yes, it was spitting rain with temperatures hovering at 30 degrees in APRIL! Fun Fact: it was 80 degrees the day before! But no fear, Matt was able to turn on a dime and get us situated with the rain plan location immediately. In fact, throughout the entire process from touring the site to clean up, Matt was nothing but helpful, friendly, and responsive. Speaking of Matt, he has become part of our circle of antique-appreciating friends and his passion for making the legacy of the past accessible for the curious shows in the curation of the vast amount of antiques onsite. We rented all of the essentials like wood tables and chairs and even nonessentials like his and her thrones (that’s right, 8 ft. thrones!) and antique film reels from them to create a truly immersive experience for our guests of being thrown back in time. Looking back, I am so grateful that we chose Star Hill; they made it so special to the most important people...
