This is the happiest place on earth. Disney has nothing on the Beloit Wisconsin rest stop, because stopping here means that you are finally out of the god-forsaken state of Illinois. You are so overwhelmed with joy, you exit the car and immediately fall prostrate to the ground, kissing the soil of someplace -- anyplace -- that is not Illinois.
Each mile coming up I-39 through what is best described as the "Spirit Airlines of US States" (only with worse customer service) brings you closer to this wonderful place, and then you finally cross the state line, somewhat in shock that you actually made it.
The rest stop itself could be the dingiest, dirtiest, filthiest stop on the Interstate Highway System, and you'd still feel bliss. The Center REALLY reflects well on our state, and is a huge asset for tourism or anyone coming to the state for any reason!! LOVED THE EXPERIENCE OF...

Sadly, the State doesn't provide enough funding to make it a real "welcome center". Ideally, there would be staff to answer questions and promote Wisconsin tourism. Barring that, they should at least have interactive computer programs to help people search for lodging, restaurants, tourist destinations, etc, as well as basic travel information. Also, the posters are old and faded. They need to be replaced with more...
