Very clean, lots of parking and large area for walking pets. There are 24 hour vending machines to get backs or something cold to drink and plenty of outside picnic benches to sit out at I'd you want to get ouf of the car and stretch your legs a little bit. If you are new to Wisconsin, there are several big racks of pamphlets with all the different Wisconsin land marks, points of interest and the different activities available throughout the state, not just around the border. Even on a busy traveed Saturday, it did not seem crowded or cramped. Once other nice feature is the ability to use a second lane in the parking area to traverse back to the front of the rest area where you came in that also has a whole second row of parking. This way if you driver past open spaces because they were a little farther away from the main building, you can turn back around if the lit is filler instead of having to exit, reverse or outright leave the area like at most rest stops. Probably the most well thought out and cleanest rest area I’ve seen, way better than those in Illinois. One of the dogs being walked wasn't on a leash and took off towards the highway, so definitely keep them tethered if your pet is skittish around cars or is tempted to chase after traffic, took the owner a good ten minutes to gather the pooch back up and get back to their car. I was on the side leading into Wisconsin from Illinois but have been to the other side and can say the same for that rest area as this side, cleanest stop on the road...
Read moreTwo stars because of safety reasons. Parking on the side of the off ramp leading to the rest area should be prohibited. I was exiting the interstate as an 18-wheeler was pulling out of the curb lane and back into traffic, neither one of us could see each other until it was too late, due to the amount of large trucks parked on the side of the off ramp. I had to come to a full and complete stop in the middle of the off ramp, thankfully the two people behind me were able to stop as well. If I had exited the interstate one or two seconds sooner or later things could have turned out different. Not everyone is going to be lucky and it's just a matter of time before a multi-vehicle...
Read moreThis is our favorite rest stop on our way to Bayfield, WI when travelling from IL. We really like the rest area for all the amenities it offers. More than that, the staff is great. They are always welcoming with their smiles and generous with recommendations. Last time we stopped, Jeff recommended DELTA DINER on the way to Hayward from Washburn area. On our own, we would not hae have even looked for an interesting place like that. It was an awesome experience having brunch at Delta Diner on Labor Day Weekend!! Thank you Jeff!! And Darrel - you are...
