Great forest preserve, called a Conservation District here. Many nice forest trails as well as containing part of the Belvidere bike path. Prairies containing many native plants are great just to sit and look out over, or walk through on grass trails. Always check for ticks after walking trails, especially the grassy ones. I have found them on me before. This is the old fairgrounds from years ago, along with a gravel drive that is the old horse track. It's supposed to be one way, counterclockwise, but a few of the signs are down, so don't be surprised if some young kid or someone who just doesn't know, almost hits you head on going the wrong direction, in the...
Read moreJust recently visited and I hate how they sprayed herbicide everywhere, killing the bumblebees, specifically a yellow banded bumble be which are critically endangered and I watched it die due to the herbicides killing off the rest of flowers they needed for hibernation. Not to mention the plants and animals affected and when I went into the park I had a severe respitory reaction. Sneezing, itching, burning and hives from the herbicide. They really need to watch what they're spraying and if they do spray close the park because it's toxic and they need to look up what native plants, animals, and insects they will be...
Read moreJust an overall nice park. The walking paths connect with the Belvidere Park nearby, and the hiking trails offer a peaceful walk in the woods. Three fishing holes available with fishing spots along the river. There is a nice pavilion area for events along with a couple smaller ones scattered around the park for picknics.
