First of all, I would like to say that the vistas are spectacular from this viewing post. Getting here is hardly difficult, you just need to go past the junction that leads to the visitors center. Whenever I visited I always found elk herds here; I visited this place 3-4 times. Particularly this time when we visited (22nd and 23rd Oct 2022), we had surreal Elk Sightings. On the strech between Dent's run and Winslow Hill Viewing posts, we had the most splendid sightings of all - there was a huge Elk Bull, with fully grown Antlers, grazing right by the road. We drove past from him so close that we could even smell it. We got some good shots on our DSLR. On this very stretch of road we could also see herds of cows and calves in a distance grazing.
The Winslow Hill viewing post itself too offered sightings of a herd at a distance on top of a hill. With the help of our viewing scope we could clearly see that two males had their antlers locked and engaged. It was perhaps one of the most prized sighting of all. We had similar sightings last fall as well.
There is ample parking, and roads are well maintained. So if you are an avid wildlife enthusiast and understand the rewards of seeking wildlife in their natural habitat, just go for it. Google Maps is good enough to...

This location is perfect for seeing a very large area where elk tend to congregate. We didn't see elk, most likely because it was very hot in the afternoon and early evening. They were there early in the morning well before we arrived.
Bring good binoculars because you will be looking at some of the fields a long distance away. A zoom or telephoto lens is recommended for picture taking (200 - 500).
We did see elk in a field behind a few houses but there was no safe place to stop for pictures.
No tickets are needed.
We recommend you stop at the...
Read moreSo many reasons to go.... During the day is a 50/50 shot to see the Elk, but the scenery is beautiful no matter the season! My favorite time to go is at night with a spot light. Again a gamble to see the Elk, but at night you get more. You have the entire night sky to view and if that's not enough to take your breath away, you can sit and enjoy the silence for a moment. Only to be broken by the incredible sound of the Elk as they bugle. Its an experience worth doing at least once...
