Gorgeous 360 degree views from the top. We did both the north and middle trails and thoroughly enjoyed both. It was definitely challenging for us (we're beginner hikers) and I was testing out a new pack. The rocky and steep trail was probably just at the edge of what we could handle on a hike.
The trail itself was well marked and the couple times we got a bit turned around we just had to look up and find the yellow blaze on the tree to mark the path.
The top of both trails was well worth the climb and there was plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the view - even if others were also there.

Read moreOne of the most rewarding, moderate short hikes in the Whites! Though the area is heavily trafficked, in season. A relatively easy hike to both Sugarloaf summits, with a few steep sections en route to each peak. About 3.5 miles and 1100 feet of elevation gain, out and back. Off-season hike is lengthened by a road walk, to about 5.5 miles, out and back. Wide, excellent, eye-stretching views of the Presidential Range, Willey Range, and many other surrounding peaks await. Use care around the ledges at the summit areas. Enjoy, and please take care to protect and preserve this beautiful,...

The view from the summit is nice, but it's better to reach there when the sun is not too harsh. There's no shade to sit under, after a strenuous hike. It's ok to take kids along but be prepared to carry them more often. We had a refreshing dip in the stream along the foot hill. Overall it was a good but tiresome hike along the North Sugarloaf trail.
PS. We couldn't cover the Middle Sugarloaf trail as we became tired...
