Because of the lockdown we have been looking for ways to get out of the house (SAFELY), and the Big Spring National Park was the perfect getaway. Big Spring is a small tiny town and the national park brings an amazing sense of peace to this specific area away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Despite it being the middle of July the weather wasn't too hot and we truly enjoyed the hike. I would personally recommend taking the scenic view first to get acquainted with the area. We made the mistake of parking and hiking without knowing the trail and ended up walking UPHILL for at least half a mile. Although, I will admit it was GREAT cardio! The area also has a playground, restroom, parking and picnic/rest area. It is perfect for all ages. Would love to come back during fall when the sun isn't too hot. 10/10...
Read moreThis was actually a very pleasant surprise. The website for this park really doesn't do it justice. It's very, very small, but in spite of this they managed to produce around 7 to 8 miles of very enjoyable walking/hiking trails. It's also very easy to find from I-20. Google says that this is a 24 hour park, but that is not the case. Its open to the public from 8am to 10pm. There is no fee for entry, no check-in process. There is a playground up by the rangers headquarters if you have kids. The view is amazing all around on the paved trail, which runs much higher than the more primitive outer loop trail.
