Our first visit to Rooted in Red was for the Farm to Fork dinner, advertised as locally grown and cooked, Thanksgiving type fare to celebrate the harvest. The venue is absolutely beautiful. Everything one would hope. Beautiful table settings, seating vignettes, the door open to outside fireside seating with views of the marsh. When dinner came, it was a plain turkey dinner buffet from a food truck. Plain turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, canned gravy and corn and tiny rolls. Even the cranberry sauce felt canned/purchased. No butter for the rolls, no salt and pepper. Not at all what we expected for a 65$/person meal. A harvest dinner, fork to table, for that price should have been real food. We felt like we were getting a school or foodservice quality turkey dinner. No seasoning on the turkey. No fresh herbs. No roasted veg, no squash. The dessert was a half piece of pie (also felt purchased). And we had to purchase all of our drinks (cranberry juice was included.) We felt very deceived by the advertising and were extremely disappointed at the quality of food. We will go back for music, but probably never for one of these dinners. As a foodie and former restaurant owner I thought (and hoped) this would be the first of many dinners I would enjoy there. I was so excited too see something like this come to central Wisconsin. Read moreMy wife and I were in town for an annual pastors and spouses retreat. We stopped in during some free time to check this place out. I’ve wanted to visit a cranberry farm ever since we moved to Wisconsin and finally had the opportunity.
We stopped into the farm store and loved all of the local items on display. We asked about the immersion experience and learned they had been filled up, but just had two people cancel. Once to a fiend that was currently flooded and being worked we got out, put on some hip waders, and got into the water with the berries.
We learned a lot about cranberry farming, and the people working there were very welcoming and happy to tell us about their passion for this little bouncing berry. We stopped back at the gift shop to make a couple of purchases, and then sat outside by one of the fire pits for a while before heading back to our hotel.
Thank you for a great time! We’ll be back soon with...
