I have been to Kolomoki Mounds State Park many times over the years. It is one of my favorite parks. Away from the crowds and underused considering how nice it is. If you like history, you will enjoy paying the entrance fee to the museum where you will see artifacts, a film, and the interior of a mound that was built by Woodland Indians circa 500 A.D. My family enjoys climbing the 57 ft tall mound. It is a beautiful view of a very well-maintained park. There are historical signs near the mounds to learn more about these people. Hiking is very enjoyable. I have taken my sons on the Trillium Trail many times. It never grows old. There are many changes of terrain, including a steephead - very unusual in South Georgia. Tip - when the trail takes a 90 degree left continue straight across the paved road and hike over the spillway of Lake Yahola, then follow the discharge to see small fish and maybe turtles in the clear water. Kids enjoy this brief excursion, especially standing on the grate looking at the water below, then back to the trail. I also highly recommend renting a canoe or kayak. I am usually treated to an alligator view. Do not feed them and stay back. I have paddled many places with alligators. They tend to be very shy, but I would never want to see one think it is cornered or encounter one that associates people with food. Tip - there.is a cove of cypress trees in the back right corner of the lake. I have seen nesting great blue heron as well as alligators, many birds, turtles, etc in this enchanting forest in the water. You can fish and use the swim beach too. The miniature golf is from days past, very simple holes, but we all enjoy playing. If you like the outdoors and enjoy history, you cannot go wrong...

They have a beach, boats to rent, and great ...
