I recently visited Glenwood Roller Rink and unfortunately had an incredibly disappointing experience. From the moment I walked in, it was clear that this rink had seen better days. The skates they provided were in terrible condition. The soles were worn out, and the wheels were uneven, making it almost impossible to get any traction on the rink floor. I had to struggle with them the entire time, constantly adjusting them in an attempt to avoid falling. It’s hard to believe they charge people to use such poor equipment, especially when roller skating is all about having quality skates for a smooth ride.
Not only were the skates subpar, but the lack of maintenance was also evident in other areas of the rink. The rental counter seemed disorganized, with the workers hardly paying attention to what they were handing out. They didn’t even check the condition of the skates before giving them to us. It felt like they were just trying to get us out of the way instead of providing a safe and enjoyable experience. The worst part was the rink itself — the floor was sticky in some spots, making it even harder to skate.
To make matters worse, the attitude of the staff was incredibly unprofessional. Instead of being friendly and helpful, they seemed irritated that we even asked questions. When I inquired about the skates, the worker barely responded, rolling their eyes and sighing as though I were inconveniencing them. It’s frustrating when you’re paying for a service and the staff can’t be bothered to give you basic customer service. If you don’t enjoy your job, don’t take it out on the people who are there to have a good time.
The other employees weren’t any better. I witnessed several workers ignoring customers as they walked past, and when asked for assistance, they gave short, rude answers. One staff member was even chatting with their friends while customers waited in line, which is completely unacceptable in a customer-focused business. The lack of professionalism and courtesy was shocking.
The atmosphere inside the rink was less than welcoming. Instead of creating a fun, lively environment, the staff gave off the impression that they would rather be anywhere else. This lack of enthusiasm was contagious and made the experience feel cold and uncomfortable. It was evident that the staff wasn’t invested in ensuring guests had a good time, which is what really killed the mood.
I also noticed the lack of cleanliness throughout the facility. The restrooms were dirty and poorly maintained, and the general seating area looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in days. The rink’s overall lack of care, both in terms of the equipment and the facility itself, made it hard to relax and enjoy the skating experience. For a place that relies on customers returning, cleanliness and maintenance should be a top priority.
In conclusion, my visit to Glenwood Roller Rink was an absolute letdown. Between the terrible condition of the skates, the rude and indifferent attitude of the workers, and the unkempt facility, I can’t see myself returning anytime soon. If you’re looking for a fun and well-maintained roller skating experience, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. The combination of poor equipment and poor service made this one of the worst experiences I’ve had at any...
Read moreMy family and I have been skating there consistently for close to 20 years and we've met wonderful people there in the process. On the other hand, the building has been in disrepair for a while. When it rains or when the snow melts, the water will often seep through the roof and into the large plastic crates that are hanging on the crossbars in the ceiling. When those totes in the ceiling get full, the water drips onto the floor, which makes for dangerous conditions for skaters. I personally have slipped and fallen while skating when water leaked on the floor. They've often placed large garbage cans (to collect the dripping water) and orange construction cones on the floors during sessions, to alert skaters where the dripping water is. 🤦🏾♀️ It was like skating through an obstacle course. As of late, I believe there were recent (minor) repairs on the roof but when it rains, the leaks find their way onto the floor. A few years back, a small portion of the ceiling fell in right after the Friday night adult session was wrapping up due to standing water. (No injuries) There's dust on most of the light fixtures and stuffed animals on top of the lockers. The carpet in the bathrooms smelled like urine often and are unkempt. Handwashing soap was not always available. Mask wearing was not enforced by management and during the height of the pandemic, social distancing and capacity limits were not exercised at this place and there's video evidence to boot. Depending on the session, the music played by most of the DJs, are repetitious, dated, disappointing and downright depressing. The regulars know exactly what I mean...especially on the older adult sets. The sound quality of the music is not consistent and often muffled. The lockers will take your money but if you make the cashier aware, they will refund you immediately. As far as the food, I stopped eating there years ago, after I and a few others got sick from eating their nachos. The skate floor is huge and the polyurethane is not placed often enough. The floor becomes super slippery before another coating is laid. They just constructed a new stepper's floor as of this review and it is nice. It's not huge and is the shape of a wide rectangle but bigger than the one that was there previously. The rental skates need to be thrown away. 90% of them are old, raggedy and dry rotted. The parking lot is very large and paved. This place is home to very large annual skate parties which were quite fun to attend. They also have birthday parties and you can rent out the place for private parties. There are different skating instructors who give skating lessons, for beginners to advance skaters. I love this place, because of the people I've met. The less than stellar music that's played week after week and the disrepair of the building, makes...
Read moreI hosted an alumni event and was quite disappointed. It was a complete disaster. I hired my own DJ and Camera crew. I expressly mentioned that ahead of time. However, the rink seem like they had their own ideas in mind. Not only was my DJ not allowed to plug into their system, I also rented skates for everyone in my party and many of the skate were mixed match and those in my party complained about that and told me that alone made skating difficult. My family and I own our own skates and didn't experience that. However, We did experience the attitude from the Glenwood Skating rink staff. Additionally, they accept cash only and do not accept debit, credit, apple pay or any kind of card or digital payments and that is a huge inconvenience for patrons. If you Zelle them they still will charge you fees. To add insult to injury, they ran out of food and the drinks were watered down. That combined with the attitudes of the staff made me and those in my party to cut the party short and leave. Moreover the staff was very hostile to the youth in our party. The lady that scheduled my party was not the friendliest and was extremely rude to some of the older teenage guests who were simply trying to take their skates back. The manager seemed to try to accommodate on my fees but with a staff that doesn't seem to care about the patrons and have such a bad attitude, being a nice manager is over shadowed by the unfriendly and I will even go on to call it a hostile environment. I am highly disappointed and believe I should be refunded my money. I truly don't understand how they stay open. As a business owner myself, I am all for supporting local businesses especially Black owned ones. However, this one is a huge...
