Fall drives on the Blue Ridge Parkway hit differently! Taken 10/17/2023 If you’re headed out to the mountains, I’d recommend checking out areas that are at around 3,500 to 5,000 elevation. Here are some areas to explore this week: 🍁 Rough Ridge 🍁 Crabtree Falls 🍁 Graveyard Fields (+ surrounding area) 🍁 Price Lake My BIGGEST piece of advice is to be adventurous and flexible! This time of year brings a lot of people to the parkway. I always aim to visit some classics but sprinkle in some off the beaten path locations to take a break from the crowds. Pro Tip: my favorite thing to do is to drive the side roads up to the parkway. They typically have incredible color. I drove Crabtree Road yesterday and it was GORGEOUS. P.P.S. Crabtree Rd also has Little Switzerland Cidery off of it and it’s such a cute stop run by the nicest couple. Follow @catescompass for more adventures in the Southeast & beyond! Nice trail all the way around the lake. As of may 2025 the overlook parking lot is closed off for maintenance. Best to park at the boat rental parking or the park past the dam on the left and walk back. As of may 15th there was 2 trees down across the trail but easy to get around them. Part of the loop from the boat rental to the dam is closed and you will need to walk that part...
