When people talk about excellent Blue Ridge Parkway views this is one of those places. You can see so incredibly far and get a wonderful idea of what the blue ridges are. It is a close drive from both Blowing Rock and Boone. There are better views but none so close to large towns in this area.
If you want a hike as well look back at the fence line and you will see a break to the left. Hike up for about 15 minutes and you will find yourself in a gorgeous mountain side field. This area is close to the Mountain to Sea Trail so there are turnoffs that one could camp near fruit trees and bushes.
Be aware you can find better views and less busy places than this overlook but it will take a hike or more time to drive on the parkway.

Read moreThis is my FAVORITE stop on the blue ridge parkway. It's an amazing overlook and if you cross the street and go through the fence there is a trail. I stopped there before it was known and now it's more over grown but the trail is great. You go up by apple trees and by blackberry bushes. And you definitely have to climb the trees!
