We visited on a cloudy Saturday afternoon in mid-April 2025.
The ledge trail is a great easy trail with a big reward at the end. We've seen similar rock formations at a hike in Virginia called the Channels. It was much bigger but also multiple mile hike in. This hike was less than a mile and you got to see all the cool rock formations.
The kids loved crawling through the rock formations. It's not big enough here that they would get lost but there are some spots which could be tricky if they got stuck so don't let younger kids wander too far on their own.
You don't have to do the entire hike to see the ledges, you can take a direct route there and there are short cut back trails to the parking lot.
We did the trail counter clockwise and saw the closed off cave first. You cross the little bridge and there is a small crack in the rock maybe 1 to 2 foot wide and that's where it starts. You can explore all the way through until you reach a bunch of stone steps. You can hike up the steps and back to the parking lot. If you're tight on time this is a fantastic hike.
Because of the weather there weren't very many people here. Lots of opportunities to take pictures without other people in them. We ran into maybe 6 or 7 groups the entire hike which was much fewer than we expected to run into on a Saturday.
If we were in the area, this would be a great hour or so adventure we'd do again just wandering through the rocks. Highly recommend of even the most...

The hiking trail is moderately difficult in places. Not paved and definitely not flat. You'll be scrambling over rocks in a few areas.
Many people hit the scenic overview to watch the sunset, so that can get a bit crowded at that time.
The trailhead has a reservable lodge, a connected outdoor shelter with picnic tables, full restrooms, and water fountains.
Massive grass field right off the parking g lot for frisbee, running your dog or watching clouds.
There are secluded picnic areas with grills along the edges of the main grassy field.
Plenty of parking, but it can...
ย ย ย Read moreSo they don't call it the ledges for nothing- there are obviously a lot of ledges and "side" trails off the main trail to rock climb and explore. Little passage ways to squeeze through and see something different. If you take one of these sides, you will eventually get back onto the main so don't worry you will get lost. Go explore and have fun.
Depending on whether or not you take a side trail is whether or not the trail is strenuous- all side is as it requires climbing up and down rocks. Taking the main is easy.
Also, I would recommend ending the trail where the stairs are going up and do not continue on going because it then morphs into a different trail which is how we got lost (lol,...
