Went in July of 2025. Trailhead not well marked. When you are looking at the two entrances, take the one to the right for the trail. (We walked all the way to the picnic area because there were no signs to the left.) Probably from 1/2 mile to just over a mile, the trail is very rough. It's almost like they brought some type of vehicle in to widen the trail, but they just left all the debris there, so it's rutted with wheel marks and there are piles of debris. In addition, the edges have rough bottoms of plants that didn't get completely cut down. Otherwise, a little mud, but a decent trail. Some slight up and down but overall fairly easy for an almost three mile hike.

It’s not a “gentle” or “easy” trail as suggested. It’s mostly uphill and riddled with tree roots. Throughout the trail is angled/slanted making it difficult on the knees. We went 1-1-25 and it was terribly muddy, near impassible in spots. Definitely waterproof hiking boots needed! The trail is not marked anywhere except for entrance. On the horseshoe trail, the wood decking was very slippery (not ice) and there were several trees downed blocking the short path. Hiking within the pines was beautiful, quiet, and peaceful.

So my review is based on spring when the trail is wet. Unless you like hiking through slick, thick mud 95% of the time, much of it covered in inches of water, this trail is not a nice hike during springtime. I'll have to come back during dry conditions. If the trail gets this bad when wet, though, I wish it would be improved with some boardwalks. It is beautiful scenery, though and the pond is very serene.

We love hiking and don't mind rugged terrain. This trail was 2.75 miles and probably half of it was 3-4" mud from edge to edge. Our hiking boots and jeans were completely covered in mud. Not able to relax and enjoy the trail. Too busy trying not to slip and fall. Make sure to even start on the correct trail. We hiked almost a mile on a trail when it abruptly ended. A family family ahead of us did...
