In 1959 Paul L.Prinz. founder of the Prinz office furniture company in downtown Akron, purchased 50 acres and Damned up 10 acres which was filled by two small creeks and an underground spring.

My mother Mary Prinz named the pond because of its shape horseshoe.

The picnic Pavilion was built in 1962 , and if you look closely around the poles, you will see initials in the cement from my past relatives.

The property was taken in 1976 through eminent domain, where it became part of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. My parents were paid $75,000 for the 50 acres.

I remember as a child planting the pine trees that overshadow the pond today as I am 64 years old now.

I am delighted that people can share what my father created many years ago and I too...

We Just returned from walking "The Loop" with our small dog. FYI it's 3.41 miles (not 2.75) and took us 1.24 minutes according to both our FitBit trackers. Plus points? Very Rustic, ruff paths, and 99% in the woods. Beautiful escape and so far dog walkers Hvnt ruined it by being slobs dumping doggie bags like other trails I see. Negatives? Aside for 1 sign 20 ft off the parking lot, NO SIGNAGE ANYWHERE. So you hope your still on the correct " loop" .(we had to ask a passerby for correct confirmation of direction). Guyz, Can you not take some old 2×4's and place them along the path? It's also rated only a 1 star for terrain difficulty? Try again as this is about moderate or a 2. Also, once again Restroom still CLOSED. Not good for the...

Fun trail with some elevation changes but nothing drastic. I went recently in early February and the trails were very, very muddy. So do expect that. Nothing is paved or gravel except for the parking lot where a restroom is located in addition to a small pavilion on one side of the pond. Large wooded area of evergreens that show the history of the property being an old Xmas tree farm. Some neighboring properties offer views of current tree farms which add to the wooded landscape. The main loop is just shy of 4 miles...

Small pond by The Tree Farm Trail. Nice little seat to sit by the pier also there is a pavilion and picnic table on the other end of the pond. Good little fishing hole. Restroom on site
