In 1959 Paul L.Prinz. founder of the Prinz office furniture company in downtown Akron, purchased 50 acres and Damned up 10 acres which was filled by two small creeks and an underground spring.
My mother Mary Prinz named the pond because of its shape horseshoe.
The picnic Pavilion was built in 1962 , and if you look closely around the poles, you will see initials in the cement from my past relatives.
The property was taken in 1976 through eminent domain, where it became part of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. My parents were paid $75,000 for the 50 acres.

Read moreWe Just returned from walking "The Loop" with our small dog. FYI it's 3.41 miles (not 2.75) and took us 1.24 minutes according to both our FitBit trackers. Plus points? Very Rustic, ruff paths, and 99% in the woods. Beautiful escape and so far dog walkers Hvnt ruined it by being slobs dumping doggie bags like other trails I see. Negatives? Aside for 1 sign 20 ft off the parking lot, NO SIGNAGE ANYWHERE. So you hope your still on the correct " loop" .(we had to ask a passerby for correct confirmation of direction). Also, once again Restroom still CLOSED. Not good for the...

Large wooded area of evergreens that show the history of the property being an old Xmas tree farm. Some neighboring properties offer views of current tree farms which add to the wooded landscape. The main loop is just shy of 4 miles...
