We had some time after a 65 and over baseball tournament in 2024. We went to the visitor center first and right down the road was the trail head. It was a very easy hike . It was late August and of course it was very hot. The trail has a mild incline at best. It has some interesting history associated with building the Hoover Dam. There were several old railroad tunnels on this path. It wasn’t crowded but there were other explorers along the way. There were some very pretty views of Lake Mead and the Marina . My goal was to go through all the tunnels. If I’m correct you could have made it to the dam. This old railroad trail was used to supply the construction crew for the dam. I don’t remember the exact duration but apparently it was something in the 5-7 month time period working for 7-24 to build this railroad. We take our German Shepherd everywhere we go. There was plenty of shade along the way for her...
Read moreSpectacular view of Lake Mead from this lookout point! The water is such a beautiful color that it almost looks surreal! It was an amazing sight to see and I recommend this spot to anyone I know who visits Las Vegas. CAUTION: it can be VERY windy and some people were being blown around - no joke! This is located on a cliff and although there is a guardrail I can see someone or a child being swept off the side. There is ample parking for tour buses/rv and cars. I saw 2 tour buses stopped here when I visited and there was still plenty of room to take photos and take in the view without being stepped on my people trying to take selfies. FYI - I planned on renting a boat to go on the lake that day but the winds were at 50 mph and they weren't renting to anyone because it was too dangerous so be...
Read moreTucked away in the lesser-known corners of the area lies a true hidden gem. While the nearby Hoover Dam rightfully claims fame for its engineering marvels, few are aware of the natural beauty nestled nearby. Despite visiting the dam numerous times over the years, I had overlooked this breathtaking spot until recently. The view is simply mesmerizing, reminiscent of a tranquil lake perched atop a mountain peak, akin to the serene Crater Lake in Oregon or the picturesque Sakura Island in Japan. It's almost inconceivable to find such a vast body of water amidst the arid Nevada desert. I wholeheartedly recommend that anyone visiting Hoover Dam take the extra 15 minutes to explore this hidden oasis, perhaps even indulging in a sun-kissed picnic while soaking in the...
