The Continental Divide Overlook is reached via the Rattlesnake Gulch Trail. The trail itself to get to the overlook is absolutely amazing. It's one of my favorite places in the entire park! You can look over the gulch and see climbers on the mountain across from you many times. You can also look back toward the rocky mountains and out toward the front range as well! This is a must do if you are visiting El Dorado Canyon State Park. I highly recommend going after a fresh snow so you can get the contrast of the snow against forest and mountains! Parking at the trailhead fills up quick so make sure you get...

It's a moderately difficult hike up the rattlesnake gulch trail, about 700 foot ascent and about 1.5 miles one way (not including the upper loop which was closed). The divide outlook was worth the work. The road to get to the park is really something. There were 2 and 3 foot deep ruts. It feels like you are going down a crappy private alley way, but that means you're going the right way. The trails themselves were well maintained. Plenty of parking on a weekday in April. 10 dollars for vehicle entry. There are plenty of trails, hikes, climbs,...

Alright, maybe my bad, but unless it states the overlook can't be driven, I'm gonna try. Mistake one for me, and it's in El Dorado Springs, which is a great little town. Literally, this community has a State Park in their back yards. The only problem its a 2 mile hike to get to the Continental Overlook. Since one of us had knee replacement & our dog with us, it wasn't going to happen. So unless you can hike, don't drive there it's a letdown for me. As Independence Pass even has on overlook, you can...

Really enjoyed the hike to the Overlook the trail is wide and shady, and the views are stunning. There are the remnants of the old Crag hotel right before you hit the Overlook. At the top you can choose to hike the loop, or enjoy the fantastic panorama and go back depending on how much time and energy you have left. Make sure to arrive early if going on weekend.

Absolutely awesome overlook. This overlook is at the end of the Rattlesnake Gulch trail, which I would highly recommend. It is an out and back trail and takes about 2 hours (about 700-800 feet elevation change). The overlook gives you a fantastic view out of Eldorado Canyon and also out west further into the mountains. Beautiful spot.
