Rollercoaster riding in the mountain at night with a bajillion Christmas lights around you?!! YES PLEASE! This is a favorite holiday must for me. It’s truly such a unique experience like no other. Sure you can drive around some town looking at lights, might even get a cocoa. Sure you can go to a zoo and walk around looking at Christmas decorated habitats, might even see a critter awake. Or you can be the wild Christmas animal you are, go to Silver Dollar City and run around like a kid just riding rides, eating holiday snacks, and watching shows and a parade that happens like every hour or two! It’s a blast and never a dull moment. If you get bored at silver dollar city at Christmas, you are doing it wrong! One of my favorite memories is when we were leaving we noticed a line of people in the corner of this gift shop that said something about a marvel cave. I figured it was another ride or something hokey but we got in line anyways. As we waited with the group we realized only so many people could enter at a time together and several folks had to be asked to leave before we started this cave adventure. OMG IT WAS UNREAL and so unexpected!!!!! This was an actual cave system lying underneath the theme park and it was HUGE! It took an hour to explore and tour the cave. There were waterfalls and streams, it was truly so beautiful. And no worries on getting out-we took a trolley to exit. Once the tour was over, the park was closed, it was a perfect random happenstance to end a perfect day at the park. I highly recommend speed passes over parking passes. Just park close to a covered area and the trolleys and buses come to transport you quickly. What’s not quick are the lines to the rides. Trust me, it’s worth the speed pass. Also, if they offer the Tasting Passport- GET IT! You get to pick five holiday themed foods that are scattered all over the park. We made ours last two days so it covered our lunch and dinner. The sausage potato skillet is where’s it at!! And the walking taco was really good too, nicely seasoned beef. If you are a sweet tooth, the cinnamon rolls are HUGE and delicious. As for the rides, WILDFIRE!!!!!!!! It’s the smoothest in the very back (trust me I’ve done it all) and omg I could stay on this ride all day if they’d let me! Another great and unique one is Time Traveler. It’s so fun but the place has like three stories dedicated to waiting in line so again GET THE SPEED PASS!!!! Make memories on rides, not in lines. It’s worth it and you will be so happy You did. Looking for a unique holiday experience with all your eating and shopping needs thrown in? This place is...
Read moreSilver Dollar City has typically been a 5-star experience for us, and we generally love visiting. However, repeated encounters she same male attendant at the tea cup ride have significantly lowered our rating. On one occasion, after our 3-year-old briefly stood up in a stopped tea cup (we immediately corrected her) he called out over the speaker to tell her specifically to sit down, this same attendant left his post to follow us to a completely different ride just to rudely reiterate the rule about not standing. This was a year ago. More recently, our now 4-year-old only wanted to ride the tea cups and was incredibly upset when the same attendant refused to let her ride. This was despite her having been in line and only stepping out briefly to use the restroom. We used the exit lane to get back to our family who waited in line, and they were at the front. There were three people and five could fit in one cup. He refused to let her go with the family and her mother even offered to give up her spot so she could ride, but he still refused. His reasoning was that she hadn't waited in the full line, even though she did and just had to briefly run to the restroom. His condescending attitude and these negative interactions have unfortunately impacted our overall enjoyment, leading to a 4-star rating.
It's important to clarify that our issue with the tea cup ride attendant wasn't about being told not to stand. We had already corrected our child before he even spoke to us. Our concern lies entirely with his approach and demeanor. His decision to follow us to another ride just to reiterate a rule we already understood was unnecessary and frankly, odd. Furthermore, his refusal to allow our young daughter to join our family on the tea cup after a brief bathroom break, especially when there was space available and we offered to accommodate, was unreasonable. His condescending attitude and rudeness were consistent across multiple encounters.
We want to emphasize that every other employee we encountered at Silver Dollar City was absolutely wonderful. Their kindness and care for the guests were evident. For example, one employee was incredibly understanding and accommodating with my niece's comfort levels on a different ride. The caricature artist was fantastic and she was amazing at her work, as well as very personable. This stark contrast makes the behavior of the tea cup ride attendant even more disappointing. He needs to learn how to speak to people respectfully. While we love the park and its amazing staff overall, this individual's behavior significantly detracted from...
Read moreSilver Dollar City. I would put it on par with Dollywood & Knott’s Berry Farm. It shares many similarities with sister park Dollywood. It’s clean, quaint & immersive. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Staff are friendly, helpful & efficient.
Admission: Prices are typical, but cheaper across the board than Dollywood. They also offer military discount. I opted for the summer pass as it was the most economical for our 7 day stay in Branson. They also offer free general parking! And complementary trams & shuttles to the park entrance. They do offer up-charge 2 tier premium parking.
The App: Get the app! Navigating this park is tricky compared to Dollywood or Knott’s. There are several dead ends. I used the app navigation frequently. There are short cuts it will direct you through that you wouldn’t know were even passageways. The app wait times are not always accurate. Sometimes they are spot on, others way off. Ride temporary closures have been very accurate.
Crowds: This park has a very popular following. If the weather is nice, it will be slammed, regardless of the day of the week. I intentionally came on one overcast spotty shower day and waits were very short. Opt for a Trailblazer (2 tiers) if you don’t like waiting.
Coasters: I’m pretty much a coaster head. Don’t be swayed by the total count of 6. But they are all very unique & top notch. Time Traveler being the best. I experienced several ride closures during my 3 days visiting. So be prepared. The remaining open rides will be slammed. They almost always reopen except for my day two when Thunderation was down the entire day.
Other rides & attractions: The Flooded Mine. The Frisco Train. And the Marvel Cave Tour is awesome! I’m not a show person. So can’t comment there. But judging by the lines, they must be very good.
Food: The food is very good. With good portions and not super expensive. Chester’s Kettle Chips & Clara Belle’s Cinnamon Bread are a must. I also recommend Lumbercamp Hamburgers Pickle & Onion Ring basket. I’m only a park snacker, so I can’t comment on the full meal offerings. But from what I saw, they look very good.
If you like Dollywood, you will like SDC! Allot yourself several days to explore and enjoy this...
