We stayed at pine mountain over the new year and were very underwhelmed by the experience in the hotel. Calling this a "resort" is a misuse of the word. At the time of check-in, the people working seemed frantic and very unprepared/confused. We have never been here before so we asked for a map of the "resort" to see you what we might want to do while we were there. We were told there is no map and we should just follow the signs posted around the building to see what they have. Apparently they advertise free, warm cookies upon check in. While I was checking in a child came up to ask for the cookie and the lady behind the counter rudely told him to come back later because she was too busy. I didn't see any warm cookies, but I did see an acrylic tray of old, unfrosted sugar cookies that may have been what they were referring to. There was no parking anywhere near the front of the building for unloading. As we walked from the front desk to our room there were numerous maintenance issues that were glaringly apparent.
We finally made it to our room, and that's when I became certain that we should have stayed somewhere else. There was only one room type of available when we booked our trip. So we ended up in a room with two double beds. The room was so small that you had to turn sideways to navigate between the beds and the strange selection of furniture. There are no tables in the room at all. We had hoped to play some games while we were there, but there was no surface that would make that possible. The bathroom was so small that you had to stand in the shower to shut the door once you came in because when the door opens it clears the toilet by less than an inch. We were on the third floor, which is the top, and I counted no less than eight poorly done repairs / patches to the ceiling in the room. The soundproofing is non-existent so be sure to bring earplugs. We were able to clearly hear people from at least two other rooms using the bathroom. We were also treated to the sound of our neighbor vomiting for almost 30 minutes on New Year's Day morning.
I didn't notice until the second day, that there was a sign on the check-in counter indicating that there would be no housekeeping services provided at all. This made for an interesting stay with pool towels and bath towels for four people laying everywhere and the two tiny trash cans overflowing. There was no concession offered due to the lack of service being provided.
The pool area was impressively sized. However the water was strangely cold given that people are outside skiing all day. The kids powered through but I did not see any adults in the pool while we were there. There was a bin of pool toys, mostly balls, which were all in various states of deflated and not usable.
The food in the restaurant was very good. We ate there twice during our stay. The first time it was nearly 20 minutes before anyone even came to address our table. And we waited another 30 minutes for food. But it was very good once it arrived.
To us, the highlight of the trip was the ski hill. Everybody that we encountered on the ski hill was so kind to our group who we're nearly all first timers. The guys working the rental desk were super knowledgeable and easy to get along with. We did lessons with a young man named Paul who was exceptionally kind and patient and so good with the little ones.
Overall, we paid $200 per night for a room that was probably worth $99 per night. Had I paid that amount, my expectations would have been more in line with the reality that we experienced. I don't see us returning to...
Read moreWho could possibly consider this place a 5 star "resort"? From the dirty bed and room to the inconsiderate woman at the front desk, this place was horrible.
Seemed so pleasant when we checked in, but then we got to our room...
Pulling back the blanket and sheet on the bed revealed hairs all over. Not just a few errant hairs, but hairs that obviously came off of a very hairy individual who had been sleeping in that bed. As soon as my wife and I saw this, she went to the front desk to see what could be done. While she was down there, I looked into the bathroom and found bugs all over the shower. Some flying, many crawling!! The door didn't even open all the way because it hits the toilet bowl?!
My wife returned to tell me that the woman at the front desk told her that housekeeping was gone for the day, so there was no way to get clean sheets for us, and to change rooms we would have to give up the King size bed we reserved and move to 2 full sized beds instead.
While this was going on, I continued to check the "hot" water that was washing the bugs down the drain, and 20 minutes later, it still wasn't hot.
A maintenance man showed up to check our room since there was evidently water dripping down into the lobby from where our room is. When I mentioned the hot water, it was dismissed as "an old building" which is curious since I've been in European hotels that are 200 years old and able to get hot water pretty quickly ... but I digress. I told him about the dirty sheets and that I wasn't asking for someone else to change the bedding, just for them to give me clean sheets and I would even do the work that housekeeping did not.
He went down to talk to the front desk, and was able to return with a bag of bedding that evidently the front desk woman was unable to do anything about. So at least after an hour of dealing with bugs and dirty sheets we could finally relax in some peace, right? Nope. Turns out there was a wedding reception taking place down the hall ans our room was right above the front doors. The automated, loud as hell, sliding, front doors.
So, not only did we have a dirty room, rude front desk employees, and no peace, but guess what? You also don't get any sort of breakfast without paying for it ....
I have stayed at 5 start resorts before, and this, I would not even classify as a 2 star.
Gross, stay away! Go the Holiday Inn Express and at least get clean sheets and a hot breakfast for a...
Read moreI truly do not know where to start. We booked with Pine Mountain back in January. From January to October, we went through 5 different sales managers. Each forgetting about writing our contract out or sharing details with the next person to take over. Our wedding was Oct.5th, and it was beautiful thanks to family and friends, but the behind the scenes were such an absolute disaster. I was laughed at on my wedding day by multiple staff members when just asking simple questions. My guests had to wait almost 2 hours longer for dinner because they only had 4 people to work the event for 163 guests. They took trays of dessert back to the kitchen to never be seen again. Dinner was an absolute joke once it finally did get served. My own plate only had 2 beef tips (one being so hard I couldn't even bite it) then I had fried potatoes and green bean almondine (which was freezing cold) when the sides should have been garlic mashed potatoes and Broccoli/Cauliflower mix. When I asked the event staff, I was told they would ask the chef and find out. Which they never did. When I went back into the kitchen to find out what was taking so long to feed my guests, I was laughed at. An told it wasn't their fault..Dirty dishes were hauled from the dinner space through the dance floor during my first dance. I lost out on time with my DJ and photographer because dinner ran so late. Dinner was awful, but I thought it was gonna be okay because we ordered and paid for late night pizzas for 9 pm. At least my guests would have full stomachs then. 9pm came and went with no pizzas. When we asked where they were, we were told they had no idea about them and no dough to make us any. That is truly only a tip of the iceberg. The arch for my ceremony was the most unstable peice of trash I had laid eyes on, (we were promised a beautiful, heavy wooden arch) we were told it was our job to make it stable. They gave our wedding night room away to someone else who wanted to stay another night. We ended up staying in a condo in the Mountain Haus, but it was filthy. Every window was missing blinds so people could see in, AC units were caked in dust and dirt. There were dead bugs, crumbs. To top it off, there was mold on the pillows. I really could go on about my experience with Pine Mountain. My biggest advice for someone looking to have a wedding here is DONT. For the price you pay, it is not worth the absolute nightmare they...
