A year ago my Mother and I were coming from Georgia and I hit a piece of tire on the interstate so we pulled into the rest stop to check the car. My Mother had to go to the restroom while I checked the car. She wasn't to balanced on her feet but didn't take her cane. She got to the doors of the building and and fell down and bumping her head!! The Guy who works there went to her aid and stayed with her the whole time while we waited on the ambulance to arrive. He was a nice caring man, and I'd like to tell him again Thank you for all you did for my Mom!!!! A few months later my Mom passed away!!!    Read moreIt is pretty sad that more and more rest areas are not allowing overnight parking. It makes it so difficult when you are pulling a large camper or RV not mention truck drivers who are finding it more and more difficult to find a place to sleep. The truck stops are full and if they are not they are charging the truckers for parking. Trucks are having to park out along the interstates because of this and it is causing more hazardous driving due to tired drivers (commercial and civilian drivers) as well as the distraction of vehicles along the roadways.    Read moreThis rest area is very dated. The restrooms are in desperate need of renovation; old toilets, sickly hospital-green paint, and a generally unpleasant smell weren't exactly welcoming. The visitor information center is okay- onsite attendants were kind. The exterior looks very "governmental" and more like something you'd see as the exterior of a prison. Standard vending machines on site (when they work). Not a bad place to stop and relieve yourself, but the state of Alabama should consider a renovation into something that paints the state in an attractive light to tourists...
