About 75 miles north east of Houston, as the crow flies, is Lake Somerville. Lake Somerville has small hills, which makes it more picturesque. Visit on a sunny day, and the water looks to be a vibrant blue. Visit between mid-March and mid-April, and you will certainly pass beautiful fields of wild flowers. Any time you visit, you should find Lake Somerville to be a refreshing change of scenery.

This is an elevated mound area on the southeast end of Lake Somerville (just south of the dam) that provides a nice panoramic view. There is a monument to the eight people who worked to create the site and a couple of steel benches where you definitely will not sit in the summer sun. Also, FYI, there are no facilities here.

captured some beautiful sunset photos and the comet. This is a great place to watch the Sun go down and unwind from the day. if you've had a stressful day it's worth the drive as a place to unwind and completely let go of the stress of life.

There are a number of trails at the Overlook Park, all through the woods. Longest is the Cemetary Trail, which is about a mile in length. Park on the loop by the Monument and benches. Trail starts at the corner of the mowed field by the split rail fence. There are no facilities at the Overlook, but there are public restrooms in the parking lot near the dam outflow (about half a...
