Me and my family absolutely love this spot! This overlook is the most beautiful in all of the Carolina's. From the top of this mountain you can see SC, GA, NC, and TN. Lake Jocasse, lake Kiwi, and lake Hartwell are visible from these mountains as well as several towns. This location sits right on the border of SC and NC. Beware the drive to the top of the mountain is very curvy and the road can get very steep at times. This road isn't meant for just any vehicle, make sure you have good tires, good brakes, good suspension, and plenty of gas as the nearest gas station is over 30 minutes away. But the drive is definitely worth it. Once you reach the parking lot you'll have a 100 yards/meter walk to reach the observation platform. This is a mild uphill walk but is paved and graveled to make it easy for anyone of any age. There is always a slight to sometimes strong wind at the top of this mountain, so make sure you dress appropriately for whatever season you decide to visit. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who loves nature, mountain overlooks, and to any family who wants a beautiful place to let their family have a once in a lifetime experience. Absolutely amazing place. Parking can accommodate up to 25...
Read moreOMG get in your car right now and take a drive up to Sassafras Mountain!! It's about an hours drive from Greenville and the ride there is so beautiful, you're surrounded by trees, trees and more trees! And right now the Fall colors are fantastic! When you get closer to the mountain, it will be a winding, twisty road so drive carefully, but it's not terrible, and it's definitely worth the trip! The observation tower is the perfect place to get a 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains and boy oh boy is it breathtaking! You have to just stand there and take it all in with your eyes and just process the beauty! It's incredible! The parking lot is small so it can be tricky to park but cars usually come and go quickly, or they just park along the road. Parking is free. There are two porta potties available and walking trails also. It's just a beautiful peaceful place to explore, a must see!...
Read moreSadly cannot give it 5 stars. The disability access is overgrown (late Aug 2022) and from what I’ve read although it’s more level it isn’t wide enough and is a bit too steep at the end for those who are using motorized scooters and such. Our family is all able bodied to hike either path up and we did very much enjoy the views and out time. I just caution those who may struggle due to accessibility. The bathrooms were full of sewer/drain flies. Not the first park bathroom we’ve seen like this (near stumphouse tunnel there is one with same issue) but as a mom of 3 girls these bathrooms are unusable to us. Despite the clouds on the horizon the sunset was beautiful! So the views and location are 5/5 but accessibility and bathrooms are 3/5. Be sure to check out the observation deck using the short path to the west end of the...
