Mt Pleasent Trail is not for the faint of heart, starting with the drive in. If you do not have 4wd your risking getting stuck possibly depending on the time of the year & the condition of the road. Lots of potholes and wash out but if you enjoy four wheeling & have a basic idea of technical off road driving you will be fine. This is specifically in reference to the south eastern entrance (Lowesville Rd). The route 60 to Cofeytown Rd entrance is much easier. The trail itself is challenging and by the time you check out both overlooks plan on the hike being more like 6.08 miles.    Read moreI’ll start off with this. IMPORTANT: make sure you have a truck, SUV or CUV. If you’re taking a car like I did. Be warned it’s a sketch drive on the grabble road. Make sure you have good TREAD on your tires.
Now the hike: beautiful place and as an avid hiker and consider myself an intermediate one. This hike has rough terrain and steep hills. Plenty of water, snacks, walking sticks and breaks are needed for those that are making this their first hike. I went to both EAST and WEST outlooks. Well worth it.    Read moreGreat place to go! There are many paths in the area to hike, including ways to the peaks of Cole Mountain and Mount Pleasant. At the trailhead there is a large camping area (with others nearby). It is a wonderful, flat place to be able to camp, complete with firepits.
There are options to camp at the top of the mountains, however there is limited space and many people like to camp at the top (at least on weekends). If you come here to camp, consider hiking to the peaks of the mountains! The views are beautiful...
