Wow, just wow. Better than tequamanon falls, better than anything else around. HUGE beautiful falls. MASSIVE sand dunes. Wonderful rocky beach. Great trail with awesome views. Prefect place to watch a summer sunset and finish the day at. Dogs ARE ALLOWED here unlike pictured rocks. Pictured rocks is no dogs allowed! Nice to know that before diving down that awful wash board dirt 1 lane road, and backing up for people leaving... The Falls also have a fully developed bathroom with plumbing and running water. No compression toilet. No crowds here either and easy parking. While pictured rocks is probably amazing, if you have dogs and/or don't want to be around the crowds this is perfect.
But this place was just beautiful. Straight uncut off the block pure Michigan. Was worth a 5hr each way day trip. And there's a handful of other natural wonders nearby, au Sable river and light house, beaver lake, etc. This is about a 60 Min/45 mile drive from pictured rocks, and there's a great town about 10 mins away to end the day with dinner or just get gas...
Read moreShort walk (less than a quarter-mile) down 150+ steps to an overlook facing back toward the falls. Pretty cool as you're closer to these falls than one or two others in the park, and they cascade down over several steps in the rock. The walk back up the steps isn't the easiest, but there's one bench built into the platforms to offer a little bit of respite if you're struggling.
It was sort of busy here, but considering this is about an hour's drive from Munising, I suspect it'd be a ton busier if it were, say, near the Visitor Center & Sand Point Beach.
Recommend continuing the trail out to the beach, as well. Sable Beach is pretty much at the end of the dunes that run for about 5 miles back to the west (toward the Log Slide area), so you've got nice sandy beaches there to play on, plus dunes to climb if you're into that kind of torture. If you're after wading in the water, Sable Creek is slightly warmer than Superior (at least in the summer), but both are...
Read moreGreat falls , just great to visit. Parking was easy and enough spots available to handle moderate to heavy crowd. Lots of shades available in the lot. Clean restrooms are walkable from parking lot. Falls is Just 500 ft from parking and has around 170 steps down to view the falls. Couple of resting benches along the way to rest. It is doable for most except who has any knee pains etc. 5 year old kids was able to hike down and up in the steps. There is small 1/4 mile trail down to reach the downstream of the falls merging to Lake Superior. View of the lake is amazing here. Kids could drench in the water but mindful about there is no life guard and swimming is not advisable. Sand dune is bit hard here but some May find it fun to try. Past falls the trail is not paved on some spots so careful on rainy days. No shelter on this location but the visitor center is 1 mile from this place and we haven’t...
