Been coming here my entire life and this place just isn't what it used to be. Days before my trip I had stumbled on someone's review explaining the tweaker situation, but brushed it off. However, when my family and I had arrived on 7/17/16, the first thing we noticed was a group of people staying way, way back in the brush. They had a couple tents up at the site, but behind them were many more. I instantly got an uneasy feeling because I could clearly see that they were living there. They most certainly looked comfy. While unloading the car the people conveniently were going to their vehicles and watching us do our thing. We stayed at the very last site on the right, aka the furthest one from them.

That night, however, this large group of people got loud. And do I mean loud! One of them even stumbled into our lamp with a lantern explaining that she had lost her cigarettes and thought she left them at our camp and started looking around. I told her we found no such thing and I'd let her know if I came across them.

Around 11pm I had to run to my car and grab a jacket, and while walking there two of those people were sitting on a table two spots away from us, drinking and smoking, and what I presume was eves dropping. They scared the absolute hell out of me when I walked by. Then, on my way back from the car, one of them approached me in pure darkness and exclaimed "if any of you ladies need anything, let me know." Um, creeper.

What was gonna be a three night trip turned into 11 hours. We left the next morning because we didn't feel comfortable leaving our stuff alone. While we were packing the next morning, members of that group would walk by and examine us closely. It was just insane.

Aside from the weirdos, however, the "camp host" is a joke and is obviously there for the money.

Getting down the beach now is a pain in the ass. The bridge that you cross to get to the sand practically broke in half and is now blocked off. To get down you basically have to go through someone's camp, down a steep flight of stairs, and pray that you don't slip down the rocks you have to maneuver down.

This camp site used to be wonderful and I have so many fun memories here. Hopefully some day it can get back to what it once was. It's still a gorgeous...

The view is absolutely stunning, and I imagine my experience could have been different under other circumstances. I left the grounds around noon yesterday. I arrived Sunday morning and was so excited that the person camping in the spot on the beach (in the "cove") was tearing down their tent. This spot is advertised on the website as being the one available ocean beach camping spot in the area. So I went to the resident and knocked on her RV door parked by the bathrooms. She came out and I asked if the beach site was going to be available today. Her response was "They arent supposed to be there still so they shouldve already left, are you looking to take that spot"? I said "Yes! Thatd be awesome!!! Ill put in $100 bill and stay for the full 5 day limit!" I then asked if i could start setting up since they were supposed to already be gone and it just looks like the tent is down, there is a broom and some trash....she said "Yes thats fine. We recently got permission to allow campers down there. Just make sure to pay!" So i did. In the envelope, and in the fee box she states "they" pick up daily. I got down to the site with some of my things and a couple young men were taking the broom and trash away....left the huge tent broken down on the site. I asked them how it was camping in that spot. They said they were just cleaning it up, but were smiling. So i set up. Its amazing. Got a tan for a couple days. Went hiking in the redwoods, did other tourist stuff....planning Wednesday and Thursday to relax and write (I am a writer). Besides an angry drunk man screaming at midnight on the beach Monday and Tuesday it was stunning and relaxing.

Wednesday morning comes and so does a Ranger. I am notified this beach camping spot isnt zones for legal use. That theyve charged people for the site and have had to kick them out many times before. But i had to pack up and leave.

The resident pretended she didnt remember me. Bought firewood from her twice before that also. "They" (she states she handles no camping fees) arent available...

This campground is definitely by far the best place I have ever camped on the California/oregon coast border. It's so quiet besides the crashing waves but that's what helps make this place so amazing and its very clean and well kept and the camp host is so awesome and chill and she makes sure that your visit is the best it can possibly be and she goes above and beyond to make sure that happens. I hope this campground stays as chill and as unknown as it is right now and if anyone that reads this wants a small, quiet, extremely beautiful camping experience on the coast then go check this place out for sure....

P.S... If you read this "Camp host" My friend and I were just there on the 22nd and 23rd and we had a few conversations about the campground and all that and you might know who we were. We were in a white nissan that stayed for 2 days in site #10, but you really were an amazing host and truly made that place my #1 favorite campground out of all the places I've camped on the coast so thank you so very much for all your hospitality and kindness. Looking forward to heading out there again very soon and your friend told me to write a review so hear it is lol.

Thanks again Robin and again I'm looking very forward to going there again but this time I'm going solo so I can truly enjoy it without my friend blasting music the entire time lmfao.

Thanks Robin You rule Best camp host ever and see you...

Nice little place. Would be nice if they did a little upkeep. Awesome beach, rockhounds paradise. Cute little waterfall with a bench to sit and enjoy. Want to camp overnight someday. UPDATE: stopped in July 14th and park landscaper's were there cleaning up. Walk down to go to the beach and pleasently surprised those stairs in previous picture have been removed making it easier to get down to beach. I decided to camp there for the night I came across a woman camping with her 2 daughters who saw me manuvering rocks and logs to get to the beach the following morning I saw them again and saw the beautiful work they did, clearing logs and rocks, lining a beautiful pathway for all to easily get to beach. Many thanks Janelle, Avaya and Aizlynn. And McVay was awesome

While other beaches up in Brookings this weekend were mostly submerged at high tide or stripped of sand as stormy weather raged, sunshine and the beach between the Smith and Winchuck still presented itself in a way that rejuvenated those looking for an escape from the busy towns and swarms of people. Clifford Kamph has a smaller sign and less promoted than the others, but that's what makes this a stop one of my favorites. And it has a small stream feeding the beach colorful rocks from the Klamath Mountain Provence. Great beach for kids, and even has decent bathrooms and numerous open-air picnic tables. Also, many water spiggots available to wash the sand off.
