This was definitely a super cool place to visit with the kids. Very dusty, and lots of little ground squirrels, but the grounds for the birds are very well kept. All the birds looked very healthy and happy. It is a great place to get up close and personal with these prehistoric birds. Nothing to really do, but you can view the birds and feed them. It was definitely a cool experience if you're ever in the Solvang area. The only reason I ranked 4 stars instead of 5 was that there wasn't really any staff available for questions or out there keeping an eye on people. I feel like with how big these birds are and the fact that they are capable of seriously injuring people the staff could definitely have been more involved for my liking. The young man at the very front seemed very disinterested in being there, which was a little offputting, but no judgement, I know we All have tough days. Anyways, I would have loved to have learned about the history of ostrich land from one of the folks who cares for the birds! I wish there was more education about the ostriches and emus. Also, we learned through research that Ostrich Land was featured on the Simpsons (though it was called Ostrich World) but that would have been a really cool thing to talk in about!!! Price for entrance, food for the birds, stickers and tote bags was very reasonable ($3 per magnet, and like $1.50 per sticker, $8 for a reusable tote bag). I think I spent a total of $40 for everything, entrance, food, and souvenirs. Beware of bringing small kiddos, the birds are definitely aggressive (not because they're jerks.... It's just in their nature) but they will go for small ones and fingers, especially if they think you have a pan of food. Make sure you hang on to your pan tightly cuz these guys aren't messing around. Lots of good spots to view and feed the birds. Save some of your food pan for the birds you can see at the deck at the very bottom of the hill, those guys were very lively (each pan can be bought for $1 along with your entrance fee) . My favorite was the Emus!!! Definitely would come back and see these guys again! An inexpensive, exciting , and well taken care of zoo to visit w/ the kiddos :) 🪿🦕(very sad there's no...
Read moreI came on a Thursday morning around 9:15 AM since the place opens at 9! (Thinking being one of the first ones there to feed the ostriches before they get hungry, but turns out if they’re full they just head out to the rest of the fenced in area and others will come). It’s a way to have some fun at a very affordable price. With the entrance fee being just $7 and each food bowl being $1. I ended up grabbing extra bowls of feed because I kept running out! Some of them are pretty aggressive when they eat and a lot of the feed can spill on to the floor. Some of the emu’s were very gentle and polite when eating, but can’t say that for all of them!
Perk: They have their own pressed penny machine if you’re a collector!
Parking: There’s a small parking lot in front of the place, but they have ample additional parking just to the side. Tips: Make sure you get enough feed! I thought 1 bowl might be enough and I used it all up at the first cage because I was just so fascinated by the Ostriches! You can walk around the rest of the grounds to feed the emu’s and other Ostriches. I ended up getting 4 bowls of feed because it was just so much...
Read moreOstrichland USA is a great place to take the kids to give them a break from the shopping in Solvang. It’s less than 10 minutes down the highway and is easy to get in and out. It’s only $1 to feed the ostriches and emus and it’s an entertaining place to spend about an hour. How eager the birds are to feed depends on how busy it is the day of your visit and how early or late in the day you arrive. Obviously they will be hungrier earlier in the day before the crowds have shown up. The birds are wild, so supervise your little ones as the birds can peck and you’ll know it if they get you. They are pet friendly but it’s best to keep your pooch away from the birds. They get spooked and then they will be reluctant to feed. The gift shop is nice and has a wide variety of souvenirs for you to purchase to commemorate your stay. They do also sell drinks in case you get thirsty as it does get hot and dry there and shade is minimal. There are restrooms, but they are porta potties. They are large enough to accommodate wheelchairs and ECV’s but be warned, they are porta potties. We had a fun time there overall and it was neat getting up close to these...
