Went on a hike on Taylor Mountain this spring after one of the storms, ended up hiking by a landslide, small one. So i climbed down it, searching through the loose dirt and sand, and in the walls of soil on either side and found a few pieces of obsidian and a nice possible geode. Cracked it open and found this weird orange rock, i think it's a raw garnet, spessartine garnet, possibly! Pretty cool!

$7 to park for the day on Petaluma hill road trailhead. A few of the trails are washed out and there are plenty of alternate routes if you use google maps to see the satellite view of trails. From the lot to the summit and back is about 4 miles ROUNDTRIP. Takes about 2 hours if your pace is casual. Beautiful views of the city in both directions from multiple lookouts on the way up.

This is my families go to park. It has several trails, of varying difficulty, horse trails, BEAUTIFUL views and the best "bigger kid" playground. Fantastic picnic area and large environmental restrooms. Park fee paid at entrance, via electronic collection box and periodically enforced. Day use only.

These Sonoma County Parks are not friendly to Travelers, Retirees in RVS. So far, in every Park, I have been told to move my nice motorhome here, and then there, and then I was told to leave the (entirely empty parking lot) because RVS are not allowed. Refunds are given only if you drive quite a few miles north. My Grandfather was the Superintendent of Parks in Honolulu and I can't carry on his Legacy here in Sonoma County to enjoy nature in my own community. These RULES ruined my day, so I'm going to take my...

Hadn't been to this entrance. Another enjoyable way up. I have advanced emphysema and cancer so any uphill is always too much work LOL. And that's why I do it LOL. It is mostly uphill but it does have some level recovery areas for others with my condition. I'm also elderly and have to be careful of falling so a warning that there are many very rocky areas and if it rains, some very slick areas and mud. But it's...

I love visiting Taylor Mountain Regional Park off Petaluma Hill Road, Rohnert Park, Ca.. So much, that I purchased a senior seasonal pass. I've never had any trouble getting a parking spot during weekdays. Parking is not FREE. There is a public restroom in the parking area which is FREE. The trail is a medium uphill walk to the top. I do not recomend this walk if you have any ankle or...
