Located in a remote, exclusive community, the Bombay Beach Boat is an art installment not to be missed. In a small neighborhood on the east side of the Salton Sea, one can spend hours wandering and wondering what had happened to make this community so unique. We happened to visit at dusk/sunset. In the early evening hours this quiet town transformed as children rode bikes through deserted streets, and later, as young adults raced dirt bikes through the neighborhood. A few of the homes had beautifully manicured yards.
Do your research before visiting this location to better appreciate the experience. A quick Google search will educate you on the history of this once-thriving resort.
A bomb shelter, if needed, is located on the north east end of town. The eclectic teddy bear collection display will be sure to delight any child.
Apparently, from pictures seen, the art pieces rotate frequently, so more than one visit is recommended.
Bombay Beach is a hidden gem of Imperial County.
Have fun!
