Awesome little place for the girls to explore. You can the remains of the old lodge that was built by Vanderbilt way back in the late 1800s. Really cool little place. Good view of the sunset as well. If you climb the stairs to the right of the first parking lot, you will find a wide open eastern lookout and some seats. There's a small open space if grass there as well perfect for a picnic. (Check out our Youtube Channel GRAYBEAR Appalachia for more travel info throughout the Appalachian Mountains.)

It is a beautiful place to let your mind take you back in time and envision George Vanderbilt, his family, and all the possible guests that may have stayed there all those years ago! Walking where they walked, looking at the amazing views from the lodge, and socializing with people from various walks of life!! I'm excited to go back again!! Enjoy all for free!!

Another nice area to hike along the Mountains-to-Sea Trail (MST). This area is close to Mount Pisgah. Easy parking is available at many locations including the Buck Springs Gap Overlook (just a 500' walk). Drive further down the road and you'll come to the Mt. Pisgah trailhead. There's a really great view at this location including some benches to sit on.
