I’ve been going to this park for almost 5 months now. Never had an issue until today. Keep in mind I’ve been going to this park almost every day for over four months. Today I went to the park earlier than usual to take my six month old puppy on a walk. I always bring a leash with me for the walks, and we go to the open valley to play fetch off leash. It has never been an issue, even when other people are in the valley they have never had a problem with it. Not once. But today I was approached by a “Park Ranger” And told that my puppy had to be on a leash… in an empty valley with literally no one else in sight at 10:30 AM. Of all the times that I’ve been to this park and seen other dogs off leash I’ve never seen a park ranger or anybody tell the other owners that their dog has to be on a leash. I’ve never seen a park ranger tell any of the white owners that go to this park without a leash to leash their dog so I’m starting to believe it’s because she saw a black man with a dog and had to say something to me for whatever reason. My puppy isn’t even eight months old but God forbid it plays fetch in an empty valley on a Monday morning. Unbelievable. We’ll simply find a park that chooses not to hire Karen’s who take joy in ruining peoples days. I understand there’s rules and policies and blah blah blah but there’s also situational awareness and human decency. You should be mature enough to know the difference between policy and what’s appropriate for the situation at hand. Just another rule following robot that can’t think for themselves. A puppy running in an open field on a Monday morning is your biggest concern in life? Lord...
Read moreThis is one of our favorite parks to go hiking with our golden retriever. There are so many different trails to choose from depending on how strenuous a workout you want and event though we've been coming here for several years now there are still trails we have yet to discover including a couple that lead to the Loch Raven Resevoir. They recently rehabbed the Line Kiln and the historical house beside it but I was actually hoping the house would be open to the public to see all the details inside. There is a nature center complete with chickens and roosters and also 2 little ponds that the frogs hatch in each year. The stream that runs through the park is accessible in several areas but there is a large stretch that is fenced off because it belongs to the property on the other side which is unfortunate because it was one of our dog's favorite places to play. Awesome park for adults and kids alike, lots of bird watching and lots of deer to see each evening and the park is free...
Read moreOur new favorite place to go. I think this park definitely has the friendliest staff and visitors in the state of Maryland. The staff here is so willing to help and give advice. Our first visit to the park, I happen to take a break beside one of the landmarks when a staff member strolled over and gave me a 20 minute lesson behind the landmark. ( lime Kiln) . I am use to people really not saying much to me due my appearance but visitors are always so polite..... there is creek or lake that everyone loves to go down to either sit and chat by, skip rocks or just splash in. We haven't walked the entire trail yet. The nature center has a few animals and a chicken or hen house in the front. My children love to sit in front of the hen house. I can't give this park enough praise. I doubt anyone would go and not find this park a beautiful place to visit. It has become a regular...
