The site we all love and people who come thousands of miles to visit is stagnant and falling down because of the deforestation at the base, the beginning of the hike that you cannot take because the whole place is falling in. I got water samples it smells so terrible I seen people and kids walking and drinking out of it and it is stagnant and has the poisonous algae bloom. My ankles from stepping in the water down by the new Park where kids can get in the stagnant algae bloom water cause me to get black spots on my ankles just from walking down in it to get the water sample. If they open the playground there by cwep do not let your kids get in the water it is stagnant and has toxic algae bloom in it. All you have to do is go down by the park don't get on the hiking area its crumbling in on itself and you can smell it. I've turned it in so I hope they can save the Beloved Park it's completely dangerous now they cut the trees and now the whole thing fell in and the main spring stopped the pictures that are posted now are not true to what it looks like now it is covered in green stagnant algae. Please do not let anyone near the water I'm not sure it's even safe to go to the park anymore. The park they are building newly down at 3rd and River Road has a way for the kids to walk right down into the Waterway do not let them go into the Waterway please help me in report it yourself. All of us love that area that ever visited it now it's not...
Read moreIt's a neat little Park great for picnics or walking a short Trail the negatives no bathrooms and they did have a bench to sit on along the trail but it was removed and I have to say I'm very aggravated about that there are not enough places to set along the trail to enjoy nature you pretty much just have to keep moving until you get back to the entrance unless you want to sit on the ground or a rock but on another note they do have a picnic table at the beginning of the trail. There is a neat little Springs along the way with little fish and things like that. Something that would make the park great is if they would take care of the spring maybe clean it up dig out the mud and stock it with some wild life like fish 🐟 on one occasion I have seen deer running around the park and raccoons. Carthage doesn't have near enough places to fish and this would attract visitors. Kellogg lake is overfished and full of snags and junk. just an idea. Anyway this is a beautiful little Park all in all I give it...

Stopped by the Carthage War site in Carthage MO. Not much too it, apparently there is a cave somewhere, but it's pretty basic. Three boards, a patch of cut grass, and a small parking lot.
The Battle of Carthage, or Battle of Dry Fork, happened very early on in the civil war and was one of the first battles after Lincoln declared War Power.
It's the only battle in US history where a, then standing, state governor (Jackson, Missouri Governor) lead confederate troops against the union.
Although only a small percentage died, it was declared a win for the south and helped with recruiting forces to join the South.
Although union forces were outnumbered 6 to 1, they killed more than 4 to 1. They retreated and fought and left pretty...
