It was a trip of a lifetime! We are sooooo pleased we chose Peak Planet and that we did it...
Communication Once again, many thanks for helping us out through the process of booking, answering all the questions and keeping in touch. The website is brilliant and we found almost everything we needed there. Amazing source of information for anyone planning to climb to the top. We followed your advice and it paid off!
Logistics We were impressed how well it was all organised. From the moment of the airport pick up we instantly knew we were in good hands. The briefing, gear checks and what follows was just an amazing experience with nothing left to chance. Everything seemed planned down to a tee. We felt safe and well looked after!
People Oh man - where do I start... We realized quickly that the people make Peak Planet. We became a part of that family for a week and it was a truly amazing experience. The kindness, professionalism, knowledge and experience along with a great sense of humour and readiness to help was what we experienced on the Mountain. If not for the Peak Planet family, we would not manage to stand on the roof of Africa... We have to mention all of them and underline how lucky you are to have such a strong, cohesive and dedicated (and proud to be part of Peak Planet) group!
Our guides: Clearance Kimambo and Cha Cha Joseph. Amazing, knowledgeable, calm and super professional guides. They made all the difference and supported us to the top and back. We had laughter, we had tears (not them though!) and they were there for us. Never doubting us and always there to help. We would go with them again in a heartbeat!
The Cook - Patrick Swai. We laughed that we put on weight climbing Kilimanjaro despite all of that walking... We don't know how he did it to cook something else everyday. We talk about restaurant-quality food served three times a day and prepared on the mountain in the middle of nowhere... And he baked us a cake on the last day!
Waiter - Yusufu Welwel. This trip would not be the same without Yusufu and his kindness. This guy went the extra mile to make sure we were fine. We will never forget... we really hope his dreams come true and he will be a guide one day. We keep our fingers crossed for him!
Tent Master - Frank Mbuma: Always the best spots for the camp so we could get enough rest. The tent was always always ready for us and prepared perfectly. Our respect and gratitude go to Frank for making sure we camped in the best locations!
"The Pilot" - James Massawe. Rebecca is particularly grateful for James setting up the toilet tent so she never had to use the public toilets. It made a difference and we wanted to say a big thank you for taking care of us!
Summit Porter - Denis Kimambo: Now this guy along with our guides helped a lot and supported us on the summit day so we could enjoy the views from the top. His magic ginger tea brought us back a couple of times and gave us energy to carry on. He is a gem in the team and we will be forever grateful he was walking with us on that day!
Our amazing porters: Alois Mtumbuka, Livinus Bazira, Victor Teemba, Tumaini Amma, Judica Mbuya and Mansweti Tiro. Thanks a million for carrying our stuff up and down the mountain (singing!)... They never complained, always smiling and always there ready to help. On the day of the summit they came up the mountain to meet us and help with the walk down. To be honest we haven't seen any other team of porters doing that so it tells us a lot about the team-work and the meaning of "Peak Planet Family".
In brief - Amazing crew of amazing individuals. We were extremely lucky that we could meet all of them, had the privilege to climb with them and then also celebrate together on the last day at the bottom of the mountain. These very people and Peak Planet made it a trip of a lifetime and our gratitude goes to...
Ā Ā Ā Read more10/10 recommend visiting Tanzania! 12/10 recommend climbing Mount Kilimanjaro! 15/10 recommend booking your trip with Peak Planet! 20/10 recommend Davis, Cha Cha, and Adam as your guides!!
We had an amazing climb led by the best guides ever-- Davis, Cha Cha, and Adam! From the moment we met them at our prep meeting, we knew we were in great hands. They emphasized safety and health, respect for the mountain, and teamwork from the beginning and throughout our climb. Hiking and mountain climbing are new to me, so I greatly appreciated their attention to detail and extensive care and concern for each of us. On the climb, the guides conducted health checks daily and constantly checked in with us. The moment anyone had the slightest issue, they responded with a solution (that worked every time!). On top of their extensive expertise and professionalism, our guides were kind, fun, and a joy to spend eight days with! In addition to world-class guides, our crew was exceptional! Talk about hard-working! Wow. We were amazed by their hard work, dedication, and abundant JOY! They made the experience 100x better. Ema and his precious daily wake-ups with warm water and coffee, Chef Patrick with the best food ever (at altitude and on a mountain-- I will never understand how he did it!), Adam with anything and everything we could need for the tents and just a great guy, Jeremiah and Julius who came with us to the summit (and Julius practically carried me down part of the way down when the downhill got too tough!), and our incredible porters who not only carried heavy loads, set up our camp every night, and often met us to help with our day backs at the end of a long day but also sang and danced to keep our spirits high! How lucky we were to have a team of 22 amazing people to make our experience so much better! We cannot say enough good things about the crew Peak Planet provided to us. We saw other groups that obviously did not have a crew as amazing as ours. The crew is the number one reason I would book with Peak Planet again and again in a heartbeat.
On top of the amazing crew, we also had a great group to climb with. It was my husband and I and three others. Five climbers was the perfect-sized group. We were able to get close and learn so much about each other. We depended on each other in the difficult moments, and I will cherish our friendships for a lifetime. The cherry on top was that the other couple in our group got engaged at the summit-- so special!
We also went on a three-day safari and spent two days in Zanzibar. We enjoyed the adventure of our three days on safari but would not want to spend any longer than that. We thought it was the perfect amount of time. We saw more animals than we ever imagined! The lodging was fun and quite the adventure! The accommodations range from more formal lodges to "glamping" in large tents (with beds). We loved the variety! Zanzibar was neat too! We stayed in Stone Town. It is much different than a typical beach vacation we are used to in the States or Mexico, but we loved learning about the culture and experiencing a new type of beach experience. We stayed at Tembo House and really liked the eclectic style and history.
Overall, we had the best experience with Peak Planet for our African Adventure! Kilimanjaro and our experience on the mountain was the highlight, but the entire trip was an experience of a lifetime that we will cherish forever!! Stop searching now and book your African Adventure with Peak Planet (and maybe even put in a special request for Davis, Cha Cha, and Adam...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI summited Mt. Kilimanjaro in June for my 50th birthday. From start to finish, my experience with Peak Planet was excellent.
Before booking, I had a ton of questions - some I even asked more than once. Ben answered every one of them promptly and thoroughly, which made me feel confident about going with Peak Planet.
My flight landed at 1:30 a.m., and after getting my visa, I finally got out of the airport around 2:30 a.m. The driver from Peak Planet was there, waiting for me, and showed me the email he had to pick me up. So, I immediately felt safe and had a pleasant drive to the hotel.
The hotel, Stella Maris Lodge in Moshi, was also great. Even though it was past 3 a.m., someone was there to greet me with a bottle of water and take me to my room. The people at this hotel were very helpful, and the service was great. I had arrived 2 nights prior to leaving so I could get over jet lag and rest up my body before the climb.
I, along with my group, left for our climb on an early June morning, after a send-off ceremony with singing and dancing. I chose the Northern Circuit Route to give myself the best chance of summiting.
Our senior guide was Davis, and the assistant guide was Hatifa. Both the guides were extremely knowledgeable and taught us so much about the plants, animals, and rocks along the way. They checked on us regularly and were always there to help - from fishing out a water bottle from that stubborn side pocket (you know the one), to patiently showing me how to put on gaiters for the first time.
Moreover, Davis and Hatifa motivated us daily and shared so much hiking knowledge along the way that I know itāll make me a much stronger hiker going forward. You could tell that they really wanted us to succeed, and without their guidance, I could not have summited Uhuru Peak - and taken a picture in front of the sign, because we all know, if thereās no picture, it didnāt happen. ļ
During the climb, we were fed so well - better than I eat at home, really! The chef made such a variety of dishes - soups, stews, you name it - we joked that we might be gaining weight! Our guides assured us that no, we were definitely burning all those calories. (Darn it!). The chef was somehow even able to bake a cake for my birthday, on the mountain, at over 15,000 ft. They really went out of their way to help me celebrate my birthday.
Davis and Hatifa helped me realize this dream, and it was such a meaningful achievement for me. And because they were always teaching me new things, I feel more confident to take on more climbing challenges now.
I would recommend climbing with Peak Planet wholeheartedly. They will take great care of you, from start to finish.
Thank you, Peak Planet, Davis, Hatifa, and the whole team - chef, kitchen staff, porters, etc., who made this possible for me and took such...
