The Stork Got LostThe Stork Got Lost
We visited on a Wednesday. This was a great stop and must visit while in Castine. A detailed and meticulously organized museum with beautiful buildings, boasting a vast collection of treasures from all over the world!! The staff is extremely knowledgeable. There are also demonstrations depending on the time of year and day! Parking is behind their education center across from the museum. With quality bathrooms.

Stumbled upon this gem after visiting Acadia National Park. The museum has several buildings scattered around the water front. Everything, including the garden, was well maintained. There are many historic artifacts locally as well from afar. You can easily spend a couple of hours here. And it is all free. On a sunny days, you also have a lovely view of the water and surrounding islands.

A lovely little museum overlooking where HMS Albany, North and Nautilus moored under the guns of Fort George in 1779. An eclectic mix on display but as always a delightful local guide to chat and pass the time with. The Perkins house next door has an interesting selection of carpentry tools (if that is your thing). Well worth popping into.

A small gem of a museum with an eclectic collection. People often say that they're unsure of what the subject of the museum is supposed to be. The quick rundown is that there was a man named John Wilson who was an archeologist from Castine. He travelled across the world throughout his life to study different areas and cultures, and curing his travels collected a myriad of artifacts that he put on display in this museum. Since then, other artifacts have been donated, creating a collection that includes the entire world as well as Castine's little corner of it. The museum also features many activities for kids. On Wednesdays and Sundays in July and August there are blacks nothing and woodturning presentations, as well as tours of The Perkins House, which is the oldest house in Castine. It's a lovely place to visit on a rainy day (or on a...
