The city of Crown Point recently redid Sauerman Woods Park. Overall, the park itself is nice and has a lot of potential, but there are things that need to improve. The bathrooms, for one, do not have changing tables in either the men’s or women’s restrooms. Considering that the park is geared towards families with small children. On top of that, a porta potty was placed right next to the playground, while the actual bathrooms are located all the way across the park (far from the playground) . It doesn’t make sense to expect small children (or parents) to use a porta potty when permanent facilities exist.
Another major concern is safety. The playground is bordered by ponds on both sides. One of which is covered in algae and can easily look like grass to a small child. Neither pond is fenced in, which makes the area risky for kids who may run toward the water.
Instead of focusing funds on parking meters in the Square, the city should prioritize investing in safe, family-friendly updates to the park — such as functional bathrooms and fencing around the water near...
Read moreThank you Crown Point for making such a beautiful public place for the community. There is lots to do for people of all ages. They have lots of picnic tables under a beautiful gazebo, multiple volleyball courts with sand flooring giving it a nice beach vibe, multiple pickleball courts, a nice sized walking path along the pond where you a greeted by the owners of the place, two beautiful swans, they have a couple of piers with benches overlooking the pond that has a nice strong fountain right in the center of it. There was plenty of parking when I went. Getting there was a bit confusing at first as the road has changed since remodeling. Navigation will tell you to take a dead end street but the proper way of getting there is heading down South Street...
Read moreSo peaceful and quiet! Had the whole place to myself! There was snow when I came, and this was my first time so it took me some time to figure out the pathway runs alongside the left side of the pond, so that's my pro tip! There's a bench by the water for reflection time if that's your vibe. There's a huge playground for kiddos as well. Clean and well maintained. There's construction going on for a parking lot I think, so parking rn is not ideal, but I'm sure come spring that'll get completed. I love little pockets of nature like this. Not a huge place, I hike slowly and I was there a little over an hour, so it's perfect for an extended lunch or a...
