A winery and a distillery side by side. A call ahead to determine that the yours and full course tastings were only done on the hour, while smaller tastings without the tours were available anytime. I opted for the smaller tasting and arrived just after 1. I entered the distillery side first to find a tastefully decorated storefront with informative displays about the history of the owner and the various alcohols distilled. Once greeted I was escorted to the next door where the wines are sold (NC doesn’t allow wine and alcohol in the same location) Another beautifully decorated storefront with seating to accommodate patrons. The staff were extremely attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. The mascot dog, Whiskey also greeted me and the other patrons ( who obliged him with treats). The wines are unique, and young. Some with very distinctive flavors. I did find the Chardonnay to have a crisp acidity without an excessive dryness. My favorite of their wines was the White Cranberry Pinot Gres exhibiting a light, crisp profile with a subtle hint of sweetness. This Riesling, typically a favorite of mine was unexpectedly disappointing. It displayed an unusual light amber color and an off-putting flavor. The Sangiovese was a pleasant red. It was refreshing and balanced, not overly tart with a clear taste of cherries. Overall, though this was an interesting and unique place to visit. I encourage you to add it to your list while...
Read moreI jumped at the opportunity to take the distilling class that Seven Jars held last week. My wife and I own a restaurant in Fayetteville, and I run the bar. Distilling our own spirits would require legal hurdles that we aren't ready to do, but I like to know where our products come from. For someone looking to start a distillery or for those just curious like I was, the class was a blast. Scott, the owner does the classroom portion, which includes going over everything from getting started with the required permits, to labels, and yes distilling. North Carolina has a rich history of making spirits, legally and a little less legal. You get a history lesson of Seven Jars, and the impact they had in Charlotte. The hands on portion was definitely appreciated, and showed how our favorite spirits are made from start to finish. Be ready to get your hands dirty! The entire team is extremely knowledgeable, and answered any questions that I had. They all made me feel welcome from the second I walked in. Don't hesitate to sign up for the next class if you have interest in...
Read moreCame here for a tasting this week with a friend and had a fabulous time! Chase, the head distiller, was super knowledgeable about all of the products and takes a great deal of pride in his work. We tasted several wines, many of which were surprisingly exceptional (my friend and I are both a little snobby when it comes to our drinks). The Sangria and their Champagne.... Do NOT skip! Chefs kiss After the wines, we went over to the distillery and had a cute history lesson about the origins of 7 Jars, toured the onsite distillery and bottling set up. Time to taste the spirits! Chase actually made us some mini cocktails out of the tastings so we weren't just drinking straight liquor (thank you Chase!!). Overall, it was a lovely afternoon and we left with 8, extremely well priced bottles between the 2 of us. Go...
