We stay here with our fifth wheel and it is one of our favorite spots. Water, sewer, trash, and electricity are included in the nightly fee, and a laundry area (albeit small) is available for use at a reasonable rate. There are 75 sites available, in at times it fills up very quickly, so plan ahead. Stays are limited to 15 days per one month period. Very dog-friendly and family-friendly with numerous areas to walk, hike, ride bikes or scooters, etc, as well as horses. The playground is a great one, though a few minor areas could use some upgrades or repairs; a splash pad is available during the summer.
Sunrises and sunsets can be gorgeous if you catch a good one. Rangers are always friendly and helpful, as is the office staff when. Fishing, boating, and disc golf are also available. Firewood and bait are often available at the main gate, and they sell out quickly, especially on weekends.
RV sites are well-spaced, with lots of green space, frequent bathrooms and trash cans. We have never used the showers, but if I remember correctly they are a dollar for five minutes and use quarters. Bathrooms aren't the best and could use some updating, but are plentiful throughout the park.
A few things you may want to know ahead: this park is located in prime dairy farm areas; if the wind is right, you will absolutely smell that. There are a lot of mosquitos and ants at times, so bring bug spray for you AND the outside of your rig! It is also right next to a women's prison; if you camp in lower numbered sites you seem to be able to hear announcements more than in higher numbered sites.
Group camp areas and day use sites seem to have a lot of use, with some really cool events held at the park on occasion. Sometimes that means traffic in and out of the gate is pretty crazy, but the RV sites are at the farthest end of the park from the gate and day use, so they are a bit more of a buffer from that.
There is no camp store onsite, but there are tons of stores and lots of shopping within a 10 mile range. Despite signs to the contrary, there is no snack bar. Laundry area consists of two washers and two dryers, so be prepared to wait your turn if it is in use, or take a bit longer if you have a lot of laundry; bring quarters as there is no change machine.
All things considered, this is a great place to stay and we have yet to deal with drunken, loud, obnoxious campers like many other RV sites seem to be plagued with. While the weekends can get busy, week days and nights are pretty quiet and peaceful. Great place to add to your RV...
Read moreUtter disappointment. This is the third San Bernardino campground we've stayed at in recent weeks. Despite this being the largest facility in the SB County system, with the most staff of any of their parks, the maintenance here is the worst. Bathrooms are filthy, toilets leaking sewage from the base, everything is covered in graffiti, mold growing everywhere, even the sinks were not cleaned and covered in mildew. Some toilets don't flush. Bathrooms are open-air, they have a roof but only two and a half walls. Showers are $1 for five minutes but were disgusting. The 'laundry' is two washers and two dryers outside the rec center. And I mean outside. They were rusted and filthy and unusable, we had to drive 20 minutes to find a laundromat. And if it is raining there is no way you can do any laundry. The table where they expect you to fold your laundry is outside and filthy. The county apparently has no budget for cleaning or maintenance. On Friday and Saturday evenings we saw an unarmed security guard patrolling the park, useless. The staff drive through the park to check to see if people have checked out but do not clean up the campsites, just drive through on their cards. The park has a marina with food court and a splash and play park, but all are closed for construction. There are 50 RV sites and another 25 tent only sites. Weekends are bad here, noisy. Drunks riding bikes. People with their blaring mariachi and thumping gang music. Could not imagine how horrible it is here on holidays or in the summer. There are horse trails here. No hiking but you can walk around the lake in about 90 minutes. Gate code for after hours access. Park is very unsafe, no police presence or enforcement rangers. There is a lot of window glass in the day use parking, evidence of vehicle break ins. They have some RV's here that they rent out like cabins. They remove the propane tanks when not rented, suggesting they have theft problems. There is no camp host. Also their reservation email says that if I show my ID at the gate during check in that they will refund me $5.00 per day (excluding weekends) as a veteran discount. As of the posting of my review a week later I still have not...
Read moreMy grandson wanted to go fishing, so my wife planned a quick trip to Prado Regional Park. We got there early on a Saturday morning. The line was about 10-15 cars already. Check in was fine, even though it was Labor Day weekend.
The park was ok. There were people camping there. It reminded me of Lake Skinner. The grass was dry and brown, there was gopher holes or holes of some other creatures. We parked and unloaded our stuff. We walked to look for a spot. Since we were early, there was plenty of room. The spot we picked was covered with ants, close to the water. We stayed, because it was probably covered in ants everywhere near the water. We found a small spot with brush blocking the water on each side of us.
I didn’t get a bite all the time I fished. I switched the type of bait, about 4 times, but nothing worked. I ended up catching a duck, because Daffy decided to eat my power bait. I reeled in my line carefully and used a towel to cover Daffy’s eyes. I was able to remove the hook from Daffy’s mouth.
The best part was watching my grandson learn to cast and reel in the bait. I wish there would have been one fish caught, so he could have felt the fight.
We had some finger foods and drinks.
The restrooms were surprisingly clean.
There was a picnic site by our location, so it was easy to wash our hands.
So… No fish caught. Dry landscape. Lake side covered in ants. Charges $40 to enter, $20 for me, $20 for the car. Weird. Daffy ate my bait. I missed some college football for this.
Fishing was license free today. It is one of two days, that a license was not needed, although I do have an annual fresh and salt water license.
I would have rather been shore fishing at Del Mar Beach in Oceanside. Yea, there is a Del Mar Beach in Oceanside, but on Camp Pendleton.
This place is only ok. I wouldn’t recommend this park for serious fishing. This is why they call the sport “fishing” and...
