Absolute must ride! The Redhead MTB Park at the Minnesota Discovery Center in Chisholm is shaping up to be the best and most unique trail system in the Midwest. This world-class park offers riding for all levels, incredible scenic vistas, stunning geography (reclaimed & sky blue water filled mine pit), a wide array of terrain, unique rock features, and a grand canyon like feel in some areas of the park. The park is about 50% complete and currently has 15.3 miles of world-class trails open for riding! The park is expected to be complete in the Fall of 2020 and is anticipated to be 25-30 miles of nothing but rad trails! The Minnesota Discovery Center (ALSO A MUST SEE THIS PLACE IS AWESOME) is the trailhead facility (also a museum and 660 acre historical campus) for Redhead MTB Park - offering riders free parking, indoor/outdoor restrooms, the Miner's Daughter Gift Shop (bike accessories sold here), and the Rustic Pig Food Court (high quality food, great tasting, affordable) open Thur, Fri, Sat 12-8pm. You have to check this place out, there's...
Read morePersonally I think this is one of the coolest places to ride in the area or even if you don't ride you can hike or even take the trolley and still view the old mine pits. The bike park is a fairly new addition to the already existing park. A lot of history behind the place and it's so cool they have made it accessible with trails. It's located at the Discovery Center where they have a lot of cool information on the mining pits, also has a gift shop, kayaks rentals, and even a bike shop! As for the riding, I love how they incorporate the rocks in the trails, lots of good flow with plenty of random rock gardens and rock features thrown in between. It says all skills levels, but I'd say you'd have to at least be a tad experienced to get through it. Lots of elevation change and some crazy cliff exposure, some of THE BEST views while riding I've experienced.. had me stopping every few minutes to just take it in. Definitely would recommend...
Read moreBeing a destination mountain bike park for most, I do recommend it, especially coming from Duluth. The hour and a half drive is worth it but not enough where I want to go back every week. Reminds me of Cuyuna but a lot smaller. The trials are clearly labeled with maps everywhere and stating if they are one or two ways. It’s mostly packed down clay with some rocky and sandy parts. The greens and light blues are definitely good for beginners and anyone looking to get into mountain biking. I did really enjoy the Zen and tough mama trails as easier trails with fun lines to get some air. Recommend trying the black diamonds if you have experience because they aren’t that hard unless you really push yourself. The views are fantastic too. Not a big deal since the people were respectful but the park says no hiking on MTB trails and we still encountered...
