Body shaming from adult staff and swearing from teen volunteer. A staff member found my son's water bottle and was apparently looking for me to return it to me. As I was coming out of the bathroom I heard this staff member clearly and loudly describing my body size in an rude, unprofessional way to another staff member as they were looking for who the bottle belonged to. There was no attempt at discretion or quiet speech. I approached them and they asked me if the bottle belonged to my son. I told them yes, but I was otherwise speechless and probably visibly upset. I stood there for a moment deciding if I should say something else and decided to try to make the best of my day and I turned around and walked away. One of the two staff members scoffed and said "uhm ok?" Is if I was the one being rude. I returned to my family and my son's father told me that one of the young staff was dropping F-bombs while complaining about the previous group of children leaving the operation game disorderly.
This experience was very hurtful. As a person in recovery from an eating disorder, I have first hand understanding of why it is never appropriate to publicly discuss the weight of a stranger. There is no valid reason for this level of unprofessionalism and...
Read moreThis place continues to be top notch even after all these years. Great for kids to explore, learn, and run their crazies out. If you've never been before, think of a giant place with all kinds of pretend play. From a mini grocery store, to a bank, to a restaurant, an old fire engine (that my grandfather used to drive), and countless other activities. There are even quiet areas tucked away for children who need sensory breaks. During holidays they like to decorate accordingly and do a great job. Prices are very reasonable and well worth it (they even have grandparent memberships so they can take their grandchildren). While there (if the weather is decent), check out the storybook garden. It's a free play area with gardens, books to read, and fun stuff for kids to explore. There is even a pavilion area if you wanted to bring a lunch or snack. If you have never been here, go! Don't just think about it, GO! You won't be...
Read moreLiving in Binghamton, you know there’s not a lot of positive places to bring the younger kids let alone places that are affordable the discovery center used to hold free entry days on the first and fourth Friday of every month not only did they change the days from the last Friday to now, the third Friday without properly notifying any of the community They also continue to close down the discovery center during those free days Offer that to the community if you’re going to not be consistent about it it becomes annoying when the kids actually look forward to it and when you show up there, the building is closed and the only option is to play in the cold outside at the garden because you already promised a group of kids playtime the discovery center can be a little overwhelming and annoying when they can’t commit to things they promised a community and without respectfully notifying anyone of...
