Review for Lake Hiawatha Preserve
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Lake Hiawatha Preserve is an absolute gem in the heart of the community. As someone who frequently visits parks and outdoor spaces, I can confidently say that this preserve stands out for its natural beauty, well-maintained facilities, and the variety of activities it offers.
One of the first things that struck me about Lake Hiawatha Preserve is the pristine condition of the park. The trails are clean and well-marked, making it a great spot for both casual strolls and more vigorous hikes. The scenery is simply stunning, with lush greenery and beautiful views of the lake. It’s the perfect place to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life and immerse yourself in nature.
The park also offers fantastic amenities. The playground is a hit with children, providing safe and engaging equipment for them to enjoy. There are plenty of picnic areas with tables and grills, making it an ideal spot for family gatherings and social events. The restrooms are clean and conveniently located, which is always a plus.
For those who enjoy water activities, the lake offers opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. The boat launch is easy to access, and the lake is peaceful and inviting. I particularly enjoy spending a quiet morning paddling on the water or casting a line from the shore.
What really sets Lake Hiawatha Preserve apart, though, is the sense of community it fosters. Whether you’re attending one of the many events hosted at the park or simply taking a walk, you’re likely to encounter friendly faces and feel a genuine sense of belonging. It’s clear that this park is cherished by locals and visitors alike.
In summary, Lake Hiawatha Preserve is a beautifully maintained park that offers something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a place to exercise, relax, or spend time with loved ones, you’ll find it here. I highly recommend a visit to this...

Lake Hiawatha Preserve is a 220-acre oak woodlands and lakefront park that includes two dog parks, a unique children’s playground, a top ranked 18-hole Disc Golf Trail, picnic pavilion, restrooms, kayak launch, and walking paths. Also, it is intersected by the South Lake / Lake Apopka walking and bike trail.
Of particular interest to me is the kayak launch onto Lake Minneola, which is on the east side of Hwy 561 (12th St.) across from the main entrance to the Preserve. The carry-in kayak launch site includes a shallow water sandy beach for easy access. Mornings are probably the best time for beginners since the wind kicks up on this open lake later in the day.
I enjoyed walking along the canopy of oak trees along the lake front. A couple of boardwalk/piers provide a grand view of the lake and provides a cool breeze. At least one person was fishing from the pier with a Great Egret keeping him company from along the watery grasslands.
Certainly I will return to bring my kayak, as well as explore the many features this preserve has to offer.

Great place to park for the paved bike / jogging trail. Miles are marked, this location begins at mile 8. It extends from here in 2 directions, 1 is very shaded, the other next to the lake. Plenty of restrooms and water fountains down the lake side. There are additional non paved trails for running through the preserve. High school x-country team practices there some times. WEAR BUG SPRAY in this area!!!
Playground is great for multiple ages, even has a water tower with water in it to splash in. Lots of shaded picnic tables both covered and uncovered. Restrooms and water are close.
2 enclosed off leash dog parks, 1 for small and 1 for large dogs. They're nothing special, but are shaded. They have a few benches, the large is not as well kept and full of roots sticking up. (I wouldn't bring my clumsy great dane but it's probably fine for more graceful dogs) WEAR BUG SPRAY!
There is a disc golf course for multiple skill levels and a regular meet up group to play with. Each hole is clearly marked, I have uploaded the course...
