Took a mini vacay with my pups to the west coast of Michigan for my birthday. Pyramid Point was one of the places we decided to check out. The dogs and I had a great time walking the beautiful trail to the top. Lots of trees for shade on most of the walk. Once you get to the top you will be greeted with a breathtaking view of Lake Michigan with North Manitou Island in the distance. There isn’t a ton of room at the overlook but even with 5 different groups of people nearby it was peaceful and relaxing. There are some narrow sandy trails to the sides of the overlook but with the dogs I decided not to explore too much on those…my puggles have very active noses and I didn’t want them pulling me to sniff in more overgrown areas.
One unisex restroom was available in the parking lot as well as a trash bin and recycling bin. Just an FYI…I did not have any cell service in the parking lot or the beginning of the trail (SOS only for me) but halfway up my service came back. Nice easy hike to the top and more than worth it...
Read moreThis is my favorite spot in the state of Michigan. As a Michigan native, I’m always searching for beautiful scenery for photographs. I drive all the way from Metro Detroit to hike this (very short) trail a couple times a year. It’s about a half mile walk, couldn’t take more than fifteen minutes, and the payoff is insane. The view from the top of the dunes is unmatched, especially since you’re away from the madhouse of the main part of Sleeping Bear. It’s becoming more popular, but it’s still worth it. Jumping down the dunes is super fun, but the crawl back up isn’t for the faint of heart, so beware. If you want to go to the bottom, be prepared. It’s super far down, and you can’t actually see the bottom from the top. The warning signs aren’t kidding, so be safe. But have fun in this beautiful place!...
Read moreCertainly more of an effort to get here compared to most of the other sights at SBDNL. The road is paved most of the way until you get to Basch Rd. The parking lot isn't terribly large here, though I'd imagine finding space isn't as much an issue up this way. There's a vault toilet here, as well.
Hiking straight out to the overlook and back is just a little over a mile long, and all uphill the way out (a little more strenuous as you get closer to the overlook). It's evident that some people do walk down to the water here, though the path isn't as wide or clear of debris as it is at the Lake Michigan Overlook in the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive (though that one is much taller...
