We are always looking for a new trail to explore, and so far we've explored 14 out of the 15 trails on the Lone Star Trail system. This one is beautiful, but is tricky. This time we hiked the segment of the trail that goes from the Trailhead #15 to the FM945, and we tracked 6.63 miles in 2hrs45mins of walking. The path itself is beautiful, but as you can see in some photos and videos I shared here, in some segments the trail is pretty mich unexistent, and you need to figure out where to go, by instict or trying to follow anyone else path if you can identify it, bit it can be a little bit of a challenge. Because of that, if you are not used to hike frequently, or might not feel comfortable on an unmarked trail, then I suggest you try other Trailheads like #1-#2-#3, which are way more easy to follow. Since the last year's storms those higher number trails, that were wipe-out, still need to be cleaned more, because nature has taken over. Another thing is that this trail has many swampy areas and mosquitoes want to carry you over in some areas, so I do recommend wearing full covering, long sleeve shirts, long hiking pants, and even neck and face coverage. I am giving it 4 stars because of the unmarked trails. That said, if you are a more avid hiker, and really enjoy the challenge, it is a great hiking trail. We personally loved it, but it might not be...
Read moreUPDATE:. From the tornado and then from Hurricane Beryl the trail is blocked when you go in not too far. They did cut down big trees that were in the way but I don't know if they didn't go any further than that but the trail is completely untraceable. The one Bridge was swept away but you can still cross it because somebody put boards there the big bridge is perfect but after that, not too far is when I got lost trying to find the trail because there's trees blocking it could not find it at all this Trail needs help!! I got lost!!
This is a nice trail and you can hang out at a few spots along the water. Nice and quiet. No bugs today....
Read moreQuite a number of the bridges are wiped out in this section and at one of them, we were accompanied by a water moccasin going across. (Triangle head, narrower neck). It apparently was close behind me as I crossed (husband behind me saw how close). Other than the bridges, snake, and huge spiders/webs, the trail and markings through this section were pretty good without having to walk through brush/brambles. Surface of the trail was good. Mosquitoes were out but ok with some DEET and swatting. Did find two ticks later which really surprised us! Really, really wondered what happened (and when) to wipe out so many of...
