If you wanna finally catch fish cuz your tired of getting recommended dead fishing spots, this is THE place to go. It is the best fishing spot i have ever fished around here. But, to get great fishing, you have to know exactly where to go.

First, make SURE you have a motorized boat, cuz your gonna have to travel a long few miles to get to good fishing spots. Trying to paddle a kayak across those rough unforgiving water will not be fun at all.

When you get out into the water, drive a while straight out from the boat launch, enough to make sure you can see all the way out to the other side of the lake. Once you have done that, look for a large stone wall looking thing, it should be straight out in front of the boat launch. it kinda looks like a castle wall. this will be a very important reference for directions. Point the tip of your boat at the wall, just to make it easier to understand the next few directions.

the fishing spot you wanna go to will be on the same side of lake as the rock wall. Cross the lake to get to that wall and turn LEFT. if you hug the shore line to the left of that wall, you should eventually get to a spot that look brown/tan, because there are tons of dead bushes and rocks. it may seem like your driving for too long in a straight line, and you may wonder if you took a wrong turn, but trust me when i say this: it SHOULD take a long time to get there because your destination on the opposite side of the lake from the boat launch. Just keep going and eventually you WILL be able to spot a distinctly brown spot along the coast, it is something that completely stands out from any other spot on round valley's shore lines. This brown spot is the spot that will almost guarantee bass strikes with even the tiniest bit of skill with lures.

A bit more on this spot, tips and tricks:

This is a LURE FISHING spot meant to be FISHED FROM THE COAST, bait fishing and/or boat fishing might not be as productive. These bass obviously go for things that have a bit more finesse, and will be scared away by a boat. This spot has a variety of different spots that provide different shelter for different bass. If you look for camp 13, there is a bunch larger logs, rocks, and overall larger shelter, this spot has a lot of great places to find smallmouth and largemouth. these bass are basically dream bass, especially with their behavior. They behave exactly like the stereotypical bass, meaning you don't have to learn what kind of special detail these bass have grown accustom to. The most important thing you have to learn about them is drag-and-drop, or stop-and-go, was by far the most productive way to fish finesse lures. If you go farther down the shore even into the grassy areas around the brown spot, you can find multiple places lined along the floor with big and small rocks piled up together in shallower waters. The rocky and shallow spot is chocked full of rock bass. I went fishing down there with and rapala micro jointed lure, bouncing it along the bottom, with a bit of stop-and-go, and caught 6 bass, 5 rock bass and 1 largemouth.

HOWEVER, along these coasts, there are literally thousands of bugs that just wont stop swarming. These bugs were so bad, after about an hours of fishing while stand still, my pant legs were almost completely black covered with bugs. The amount of bugs constantly swarming you is like something from a horror film. PLEASE bring tons of extremely heavy duty bug spray, long tight pants, full sleeve shirt, and anything else that could possibly stop these bug from landing...

Amazing wilderness campsites, definitely my favorite and I go there every year. Not super challenging trails but definitely not a walk in the park either. Please note that this is not a RV campsite and you have to HIKE at least 1.5 hour to even get to the first campsite (for me at least, you might do better).

Getting to your campsite: For camping/hiking it offers a mixture of easy/flat to challenging steep and rocky trails. Campsites could be reached either by hiking or by boat. The closest campsite is about 3.5 4 miles from the parking and takes an average person about 2 hours to get there and the last campsite is about 9 miles away from the parking (maybe more, never camped there!). You must go prepared with the right gear to be able to enjoy it. Don't underestimate the hike as every year I see so many people who go with a ton of stuff on them, taking little babies or pregnant women with them as they were going to picnic in the park across the street.

Campsites are far enough from each other to give you the feeling of solitude in the wilderness but close enough to give you feeling of security that others gonna be around if something happens. They all have a fire ring and most of them have a bench too. Some of them are close to water and some are further away but not of them waterfront.

Cost: I think it was about $15 for one night for a campsite. They also have a couple of group campsites that more people can use and are more expensive.

Overall: If you go prepared you'd...

I have been going to Round Valley for over 40 years. It is a beautiful place. I have been to the beach, fishing, hiking and the boating area. My problem on Sunday (8/4/19) is with the people that do not respect the lake or others. My family meets up for an hour or longer on a regular basis and we all kayak or paddle board. We pay the appropriate fees/licenses to do this and obey the rules and regulations of the park. It's the families that think they can go there with no boat or fishing pole and make a party of the day on the shoreline and swim in the waters with their barking dogs that ruin a should-be wonderful experience. If you do not have a boat or kayak why are people even allowed in? If you have a fishing license but bring the whole family with so they can swim off the shoreline while your fishing it doesn't take a HS degree to know they are NOT there for fishing! I wish the park would enforce more tickets on these people who want to find loopholes and destroy a beautiful park. Pick up your dog's poop if he goes. I have seen this along the shorelines too many times recently. People who take their dogs kayaking/paddle boarding I see pick up after their animals and I thank you. If you have to use the restroom take a damn walk I actually saw someone squatting in the bushes by the boat dock. Shoreline needs to be patrolled before this lake is shutdown. Let's all work together and keep this...

We came here for the first time today, not knowing there was a $20 entrance fee or what exactly we were paying for. At the gate, we asked if we could drive in for a minute just to check things out before paying. The answer was basically: “Pay up or get lost.” No flexibility, no explanation — just attitude. Fine, we paid. I had a few spots marked on the map that I wanted to visit, but every single one of them was blocked off with a big “AREA FULL – DO NOT ENTER” sign. Staff told us to drive miles away to a side lot and hike back down — with my wife and a 7-month-old baby. Are you kidding me? And the worst part? Nobody at the entrance said a damn thing about the area being full. They took the money and let us drive in knowing we wouldn’t even be able to stop anywhere. Total scam. We turned around and went straight to the office to ask for a refund. They refused. Their excuse? “It’s a park entrance fee, not a parking fee.” Give me a break. You charged us to enter a park that was basically closed off. I’m filing a chargeback with my bank — I’m not paying for this nonsense. Horrible service, rude and clueless staff, and an experience that felt more like a trap than a day in nature. Embarrassing operation. Never again.
