I came today for annuals, and wanted to try something new in areas of my yard that have varying amounts of sunlight and receive more or less moisture, depending on how the sprinkler hits them. Questions naturally arose, since not all the plants had name tags and instructions for planting . .Although there were plenty of sales associates, unfortunately the three I asked were unable to answer even the most basic questions, like what the name of a plant was !
It was disturbing at best . One young woman told me she had always worked at a desk job, so of course she did not know . A male employee barely spoke English, and could barely understand my question . After the third person I asked could not tell me the name or best conditions of a planting I was considering , I asked her to see if she could find out. She never came back! Surprise, surprise!
I bought the same annuals I always buy - marigolds and begonias. It was nice to find the healthy begonias in bright yellow- that was a first for me, and the best thing I can say about this Closter nursery .
I went to check out, and that was when I knew I would never come back to this awful nursery. The lady in charge was rude and unaccommodating at best. She insisted that i give the checkout girl my credit card . I asked if I could insert it myself. She then insisted that I hit the button in the pad, while she leaned in uncomfortably close to me . I had to ask for a piece of plastic to lay in my trunk , and i was pointed to the dispenser; no box was offered . The lady in charge “yelled” , yes “yelled” at me to hurry up because she had to put some things on the counter! I almost left my gloves, in haste but she screamed at me again, to remove them from her precious , outdoor countertop. I will never go back to this store. The experience positively ruined a lovely day , doing one of the things...
Read moreWe are new to planting trees and went to Metropolitan to look for some green giants at the recommendation of an expert gardener. Don’t really have enough data points to say much about the business, but did have enough interactions with their subject matter expert / gardener sales person Mohammed, to say, buyers beware of him! He is very nice by impression but he will say whatever he needs to say to make the sale instead of offering honest advice. We were buying pretty late in the season, end of July time frame, so there were not many trees left. They weren’t the best trees, but us being inexperienced, relied on Muhammad to answer our questions. He offered nothing of substance besides every tree is good. I asked him if they will have new trees arriving, he said that’s it for this season. We ended up taking four trees but was debating on a fifth tree that was picked out and recommended by Mohammed. I didn’t buy it at the time because I wanted to make sure I have enough room for five. After getting back to the house I called Mohammed and added over the phone the fifth tree we had both discussed in person. He said okay and then shipped me a really bad unsellable tree. When I got the shipment of five trees total it took a few days for my landscapers to plant, at which point I realized he shipped me a different tree. We went back in person and found the tree we originally wanted. All of a sudden he’s saying that tree just came in because he must have forgotten during the sale he lied about no more trees coming in this season. He refused to fix the problem and is deceitful. See photos on the bad tree he sent us. He also made false statements such as it’s day TEN that we tried to reach out when today is the fifth day after shipment. It’s really frustrating trying to reason with someone with a low hurdle on changing facts at will, on things as ridiculous as days since...
Read moreThis is my go-to place for my live plants. There selection is as good as it gets. My vegetables and garden flowers usually come from here. You can get help if you need it but I prefer wandering around and exploring. If that's what you want they are perfectly happy to let you be. I could spend an hour or two walking around. They have some duck's and chickens running around tofaciinate the kids. Also some Lamas or alpacas not sure which. The have a huge selection of pots, from tiny 6 inchers all they way to gargantuan. A variety of materials, from brick to stone to cement. Absolutely huge. If you can't find a pot you like here then I don't no where to send you. These range in price from a few bucks to hundreds of dollars. They also have hard to find garden ornaments, feeder pesticides and fertilizer. They aren't cheap but they don't kill you either. I find some bargains on plants. They also have there own home grown of there own. These are grown there because this is actually a real farm. In some of the most expensive areas of real estate in Bergen county NJ. Oh yeah, they sell fresh eggs from those chicken's I...
