Quarry Springs Park — Attraction in Colfax

Tldr: Nice place away from people in the morning and early afternoons. No swimming, deep water as well. Kayak rentals and bring your own available. Fishing Allowed. Sensory wise it wasn't overwhelming until heat. Bugs weren't bad, and very few people.

Incredibly nice isolated spot(s). Kayak rentals looked available or bring your own. I enjoyed just lounging in the sun on the water while others fished. Pretty decent bites from what I hear. No swimming is allowed at any time it seems. Water is deeper than 35ft at most points away from the shore (Tested via anchor not hitting the bottom.) While I don't personally trust swimming in almost anything in Iowa anymore - I didn't notice any overwhelming odors or sights. Overall it was an amazingly relaxing morning and afternoon while I was there. Highly recommend if you don't like other people to go early. Though no one visits Colfax really. Give it a try! Cut...

This was a bitter sweet experience for my husband and I. We were really looking forward to staying here because of the scenery and the closeness to Des Moines. However the price and the lack of amenities caused us to cancel our stay. The campsites are still very new, being primarily rock and weeds with unleveled sites. Also, not every site has a picnic table or fire pit. The dump site is locked and with no electric hook ups yet, $40 per night is a steep ask for camping. This place is NOT RV ready. Please do not charge anyone else to stay here until you are really ready to open! We get you are working on getting electric, but VERY uneven gravel roads and pads with holes made it impossible for us to actually set up. Weeds are a foot tall on and around the pads. My dog had to fight her way thru the weeds. :( No mowed grass/weeds anywhere in the RV section. Sue was warm and friendly (and apologetic about no electric, no bathrooms, no shower house, etc).
