Ive been coming here since i was a kid when there was a wooden playground with metal slides, and one of those spinning merry go rounds where an adult could push a bunch of kids up to dangerous speeds lol. Now i bring my 3 children to this new updated playground monthly, if not weekly, cause we used to live within walking distance. We’ve also been to many partys, and celebrations at the pavilions. I also like to drive my hobby grade remote control trucks, and cars here as there’s lots of open space and even a large parking lot that the entrance is closed off to in the back/bottom of the park. There’s also a really cool disc-golf course that I’ve had the pleasure of playing many times with groups of friends. The boat launch is good too, I’ve fished from and launched off of this dock many times as well, you can even get an over night pass, one of my good friends has one and fishes for catfish (and striper sometimes) all night long. He loves it. Theres also a sand volleyball court, and newer indoor bathrooms by the parking lot adjacent to the playground, which is nice. Its also a great place to walk the dog, or go for a walk by the river to the historic little “420” Pavilion by the river if you know where to find it. 😂 😝 😉 We/I also took our class graduation picture on the bridge here in 2010 which has been a CHHS tradition for many, many years.
So overall this park, playground, disc-golf course, boat launch, and gathering place is one of, if not the best in the area, if you haven’t been, or haven’t been lately then you should surely...
Read moreWe only used a pavilion for a bday party. I've never been to the park before. It looks to be very nice and I plan to check it out some more. Our party was for a 1 year old. We had 30 adults and children milling about inside and out of the pavilion. Twice, on two different sides of the pavilion, large tree limbs fell out of the trees! One narrowly missing a 5 year old child! I would think that the park would be more careful to check the trees near the pavilions knowing that there is a concentration of people in that area raising the risk of injury. The pavilion was neat and relatively clean otherwise. The trash cans were empty and bug free. So I'm giving 3 stars until I can check it the rest...
Read moreThis park shares its space with a disc golf course called Pharaoh's Tomb. 18 baskets with concrete mains along with wood markers for alternates and shorter red tees. Well maintained and a mostly wooded, technical course. Park along the tree line to the left of Hole #4s teepad if you want to avoid having discs fly over your vehicle as the main drive for hole 4 goes over some of the parking lot.
The park also has public bathrooms, a boat ramp, multiple large pavilions, charcoal grill pits, many small single family pavilions and access to an empty parking lot in the back, closed to vehicles.
Overall, the nicest and largest park Colonial Heights...
