We’ve been camping at rampart reservoir for the past 3 days, and we pay a daily $8 for a day pass to kayak on the lake, but this morning we went to the camp bathrooms at 7 AM and on our way out Cindy started yelling at us saying the bathrooms aren’t free (literal portapotties with no mirror running water or lights) and that we have to pay 9 dollars to use them specifically. 9 not 8. A day pass is 8. (We are very respectful people, and she was very impolite right off the bat, we slowed down to talk to her and she jumped infront of our car as if we were trying to peel out of there and like escape) she wouldn’t let us leave until we paid, she said “call someone from your camp to come pay for you” as if we had someone else camping with us, we’re clearly a young couple with our cats and all our belongings in the car with us. (Our license plate is from Oklahoma. No we don’t know anyone here.) and when we said we assumed the toilet in our camp was free she started yelling at us again about how they don’t make any money. we didn’t go to the reservoir at all, we actually passed her on the way in. It’s actually a few miles further down the road But she said “you have kayaks so you obviously got in the water” when it was 7 am and we had 2 cats in the car with us and we’re fully dressed in our pjs. So she parked infront of us until we counted out 9 dollars in change and did not give us any kind...

That looks like my fishing spot. Anyway, $8 doll hairs to get in. They moved the gate/entry shed closer to the last turn, where it splits off the road to the Academy. We've been going there for years. Beautiful place. The water was very, very low, lowest we've ever seen it just last weekend 16 Sep 2022. I didn't have much luck catching fish this go around. We saw other people catching fish, now and then. Before we left. a guy said he was there the day before and caught six small trout. They need to smooth out that approximately four mile of dirt road, it's very bumpy. If you're lucky you might see a large herd of elk cross the road. Sad that major fire years ago devastated so many trees in that area. Looks like though they are cleaning up the debris and stacking up many, many piles of dead wood, branches. Thanks, some bodies are...

Stayed at meadow ridge campground one night. No hookups. Paid $23. Sites are not packed in there so theres room to breathe. Water is avail to transport to your site. Theres really not a bad site in the whole campground. We stayed at number 4 on a wed night without a reservation. 3 is close to us but noone stayed there that night. Perfect trees for hammocks. The pull thru sites are awesome. Not too many have view of reservoir but trails lead down there.close. Thunder ridge campground has all great sites too. Promontory picnic area down the road towards the dam is absolutely beautiful with lots of tables in the trees and restrooms avail. Loved walking around there! Will definitely stay at either campground again....

The water is a refreshing cool temperature to dip into on the balmy summer days, not to mention how beautiful the blue and green hues of the reservoir are just to look at. Following the trail surrounding the water is just as enjoyable as being in the water itself. Tons of nature, stunning views, and wild sights to admire as you explore the area. Paddeboarding, kayaking, camping, sunbathing, and so much more is encouraged here! Plenty of people were fishing and seemed to have great success in doing so, while others were biking the trail or climbing the large rocks along the reservoir beach. Clearly there is plenty to do and observe here, both on and off the reservoir; it’s a hidden gem that’s certainly worth visiting!

We love coming here for the quick and easy days away to fish and hike. We take Rainbow Gulch trail to the reservoir and fish for a few hours. Catching fish is the bonus. The only problem is people with dogs not on leashes. Be cautious while hiking from these folks. They pop up out if nowhere. For a "Local" getaway for the day, this is one of our favorites. The trails are in great condition and are easy for most. Through the woods and around Thunder Ridge all the way down to the inlet where you can catch bike trails as well. Other than a few $$ for gas and some snacks and bait, its a cheap way to make memories and get out.
