I have lived in or visited Columbia since 1977. This was always one of my favorite places to come and walk or now a place to bring my grandkids. They have built a new playground on the front side of the lake, over by the pavilions that they rent out. There is no charge to visit. Love that they have cheap snacks (ice cream and drinks and chips). And kayaking, canoeing (forget how much those were). We did paddle boating ($15 per half hour).
If you are from out of Howard County, I think you pay $2 extra. (We paid $34 for an hour) - you can have 2 - 4 people per boat. BF and I ate and drank a little, chilled and watched the blue herons and turtles while the sun started to set.

In the summer there is so much to do with the boat rentals, the different events, and the Adventure Shack food which is okay for park food. The lake path and the playground are fantastic all year round and there's always children for my daughter to play with and other dogs for mine to greet.
