Centennial Park is a public park in Ellicott City, Maryland, managed by the Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks. It is a 337-acre park that surrounds Centennial Lake. A 2.4-mile asphalt trail loop loops around the lake. During certain months of the year, boat rentals are available, as well as a public boat ramp. Hunting, guns, swimming, sailboarding, wind surfing, stand up paddle-boarding, and inner tubing are all illegal in the lake. Except in picnic pavilions, playgrounds, and sports areas, pets are allowed in the park. Pet owners are compelled by Howard County legislation to pick up any and all waste that their pets make. Plastic bag dispensers are strategically placed throughout the park to help maintain it tidy. The leash law in Howard County is strictly enforced. Centennial Parkās lake, field, forested areas, and wetlands are home to a diverse range of species. A buoy line prevents entry to a Wildlife Region on the lake, which provides a safe spawning area for fish and nesting grounds for birds. Running, walking, and biking are all permitted on the loop around the lake. There are a number of benches along the loop, as well as pavilions nearby. Water fountains, particularly water fountains for dogs, are also available for public use. As part of the Water Fountain Donation Program, the first water fountain for dogs was just added. The OāBrien family donated the fountain in 2017 in honour of their family dog, Phoenix. In keeping with the programās goal of reducing the usage of plastic water bottles, the fountain also has a bottle...
Read moreThis park is located in Howard County Maryland just off 29 and route 108. A beautiful Park the asphalt walk is 2 and 1/4 miles and the elevation changes are mild. This is my first walk since the because I don't like to walk in cold weather and it was a wonderful 74° yesterday afternoon there. I have to say that I haven't walked in quite a few months and at the end of the two and a quarter miles I was feeling it. However I will skip a day and get back into the habit. So the highlights of the Walk were pleasant people a gentle and slow effort. Additionally I was rewarded by seeing perhaps 40 or 50 turtles out basking in the early sun as the season changes. There's an area where there's some shallow water and spring peepers were making their songs and that was encouraging as well. I've never really understood this but there were seagulls everywhere. However they are nice to have around and they were fun to watch as well. Last year there were several bald eagles that dropped into the park on a regular basis. I'm hoping they will show up as well and see no reason not to assume that that will be the case. Looking forward to walking around lake 4 to 5 times a week for the next couple of months. It would be well worth your time to give it a try. It's a lovely place and Howard County takes good care of it. Give it...
Read moreHuge park, very well maintained. Great paved walking path @ 2.5 miles around the lake. All size pavilions, some nice bathrooms, but mostly portable toilets. Beach volleyball, and assorted ball fields in the main park. Much more, like basketball & tennis and lighted multipurpose fields in the smaller subsections, accessed from different roads. Amphitheater in main park, used in the summer months for free concerts. Park is very well maintained and park employees are on site in case of emergencies. Pretty much completely accessible, with the exception of the portable toilets, which while there are some designed for the disabled, I cannot get my scooter into them. But the paths are wonderful and well used by people from far & wide. Loads of wildlife, especially waterfowl. Also nice for Pokémon Go, with 3 gyms on the main path around the lake and others scattered around the extra areas. Lake is stocked, and there are rental canoes, as well as a boat ramp for small personal craft. I don't think gasoline engines are allowed & I don't know if it is strictly catch & ...
