Riverfront Park is one of Columbia’s greatest assets. This 2.5-mile greenway along the Congaree River and the historic Columbia Canal is my go-to place for running, walking, or just clearing my head. The paved path is wide, well-maintained, and mostly flat, making it accessible for everyone. The views of the river, the rocky shoals, and the city skyline are stunning, especially at sunrise or sunset. The historical markers detailing the area's significance, from Native American history to the industrial use of the canal, add a fascinating educational element. I often see people fishing, kayaking, and birdwatching. It’s a fantastic place for a long bike ride or to walk your dog. The park is clean, safe, and beautifully integrates nature with the city's history. It’s a peaceful retreat right in the middle of everything, showcasing Columbia’s commitment to outdoor recreation and preserving its...
Read moreI love this place. It's peaceful. There are restrooms. Check for TP before you sit! Not always clean because not everyone received the same home training and they abuse the privilege. There are paved asphalt trails that run along the canal and there are sidewalk trails that run along a portion of the Broad River that feeds the canal. It's a great place for exercising, strolling, or taking pictures. Some people get in the water at the river. There is no lifeguard and this is not recommended! Don't do this! The canal trail is connected to the Riverfront Park. Partially shaded along portions of the trail. Great views! Parking usually isn't a problem. Do not leave any valuables in your car. Do not leave your car unlocked. Do not leave anything visible in your car either. Again, not everyone has home training and there is no video...
Read moreThe main entrance to the park is not clearly marked. You know your close right after you pass the numerous auto dealers on the right-hand side. The park road is a dirt road, so I'm not sure of the purpose of having speed bumps. The best feature are the natural falls that have an overlook section which can be viewed at a lower level as well. Once you visit the falls area, it's pretty much over. There is a basic paved road where bikers and joggers go. Its rather under whelming. Some locals fish in the canal. but the canal nor the Overgrown wooded area is nothing memorable. Columbia could do a better job maintaining it. They do post a sign for alligator, but none were in sight. I suggest visiting the other Riverfront Park located closer to the city...
