When you’re tired of waiting for spring to arrive...so you head south to find it! We got a taste of warm weather the last few weeks in Georgia and now we can’t stop thinking about beach season. If you haven’t yet, now’s the time to book your favorite coastal spot. Many of the southern places are already in prime beach season, so you can get your sunshine now rather than wait for it to come to you. Here’s our favorite beaches on the US East Coast: Assateague Island National Seashore, Maryland Cape Henlopen, Delaware First Landing State Park, Virginia Ocracoke Island, North Carolina Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Edisto Beach, South Carolina Jekyll Island, Georgia Flagler Beach, Florida All of these beaches have campground and beach house options, plus they’re less crowded than some of the other big beaches (or at least have sections that are!). Need a suggestion on where to camp? Feel free to DM me and I’d love to share my favorite campgrounds too. Have you been to any of these? What is your favorite beach?

10 Least Crowded Beach Campgrounds on the East Coast 👇 1. Assateague Island National Seashore, Maryland/Virginia 2. Cape Henlopen State Park, Delaware 3. Myrtle Beach State Park, South Carolina 4. Anastasia State Park, Florida 5. Cape Lookout National Seashore, North Carolina 6. Hunting Island State Park, South Carolina 7. Grayton Beach State Park, Florida 8. Bahia Honda State Park, Florida 9. Sebastian Inlet State Park, Florida 10. Croatan National Forest, North Carolina Will they be empty? No. It IS one of the busiest weekends of the year, but they’ll definitely be less crowded. Less traffic, less people, that means more time enjoying the beach, win. . . What are you up to this weekend? Bonus tip! Find a 4WD beach if you have a vehicle that can handle it. I finally got rid of my minivan for an AWD SUV and being able to drive in the beach is AMAZING! No more worrying about parking and lugging around all my stuff. Plus 4WD beaches will typically be less crowded and are dog friendly. ——————————————————————— We Chose Adventures is an outdoor family that downsized to prioritize family adventures. Campground: Cape Henlopen State Park City, State: Lewes, Delaware Check-in: December 2, 2022 Check-out: December 4, 2022 Site Number: B-08 Our Set Up: Class C Motorhome (32 feet) plus TOAD We Liked: This campground was renovated in the past 5 years. It is very updated. Paved pads for the motorhome and TOAD. Electric boxes accommodate 20A, 30A and 50A. Bath house is set up as rooms with a toilet, sink and shower. Small playground that the kids enjoyed. Camp store is basic but functional. Roads around the campground are easy to navigate. Sites are set up in such a way that different length RVs are on either side of your spot. This, along with the tall pine trees gives a feeling of having a lot of space between campsites. The campsite is a quick walk or bike ride to the rest of the state park (trails, ocean, Fort Miles). It is a quick drive to Rehoboth Beach for dining and shopping. We Didn't Care For: Not a big deal and understandable due to its location, sewer is not available at the campsite. There are 3 dump stations when leaving the campground. Overall Assessment: This is the second Fall web have spent at Cape Henlopen and will continue to do so. The tall pines and nature within and surrounding the campground is amazing. It is such a peaceful place. It is advisable to book as early as possible for summer reservations as the campground books up early. ******* November 11-14, 2021 Site B-08. Great state park campground. All of the RV spots are paved. The size of each spot alternates so that you don't get RVs directly next to each other. Bathrooms plentyfull and clean. Small playground for the kids. Easy access to trails, beach and Fort Miles. Basic camp store to purchase ice, firewood and basics. Keep in mind that the dump station is on the way out of the campground. If you are staying more than a weekend you might want to consider a portable dump bin so that you don't into any problems. We stayed 4 days and the gray tank was stuffed.

We visited Friday of Labor weekend. We arrived around 8AM and biked a number of the trails and most of the way down Gordon's Pond trail. We parked at the nature center and took the loop to the left or clockwise. There are bathrooms that are pretty nice to the left at the playground area since the nature center doesn't open until 9AM. The nature center also rents out bikes for free. You have to go into the nature center to fill out a formal, and that's it. 2 hrs maximum. We also stopped by and visited Fort Miles. There is a small exhibit there right now, but they have plans to expand it for sure, which sounds like it's going to be great. The large gun batteries outside are also very cool to look at, and the scale is just insane. The weird note is that the bathrooms here include showers! I didn't try them but was very surprised. We visited the nature center after we got back from our ride. There were a bunch of other cyclists out there, even that early on a Friday morning. By the time we finished, the whole parking lot was full. The visit center has a number of aquariums that show sealife at different tidal zones. There is a large touch tank with horseshoe crabs and a gift shop too. There is also a theater room that plays a short video on a loop and a turtle and snake. We could've easily spent the whole day at the park but we had other plans in the afternoon which was good as the park was starting to get really full. I was told by one of the staff at the Nature Center that on busy days they do have to close the park at the gate for capacity.

I have lived in Delaware 30 years and even though I knew it existed I never been here until just this month, day trip. First of all parking is not expensive if you live in the state. Might be few dollars more if you are from another state. The map of the park is little difficult to understand. Had to ask people which direction was the Fort Miles museum. The Cannons and military truck was neat. Not much to see in museum as thought there would be. The observation tower was closed so could not go inside. After this we headed to other side of park and went in nature center. That was like a mini aquarium with a hands on experience too. Kids liked it. Then we went to the beach area I guess there are a few entrances to the beach but we took one closest to light house in distance. The sand ramp to the beach was a hard walk especially for us not used to walking thru sand on a hot day with medical issues like asthma. Some older couples had to stop and catch breath too. Once we got to a area to set stuff down we wanted nothing but to head for ocean. That was great except for a couple jelly fish and crabs?? Pinching our toes ouch! The beach was not really crowded maybe 30 families spread out. At one point my daughter and I were only ones in Ocean for miles. Thought that was weird and cool at same time. Could see dolphins out deep. If there was a route to lighthouse other than by boat we didn't see it. Over all had great time.

My review will do nothing to change the fact that this state park is booked solid all season long. However, I hope it will help people who seek similar park experiences to ourselves make an informed decision before visiting! The camping portion of our visit was one of the worst experience in 30 years of camping. I can not fault the park for the site neighbor, tenting in an rv spot, who actually thought playing a guitar and singing for over two hours straight, 6 feet from me, was OK. (Bless his adoring wife who sat and watched him). Obnoxious and unbelievable behavior. I can however, fault the park for sites which are jammed on top of one another. As in our neighbor just feet away from us. I mean in your face, right there! Fire pits (no, not yours, your neighbor’s!) are feet from your rv or tent. If they removed every other site and put any thought into creating site privacy, this would be a completely different experience. Showers are prison style with no privacy or security for your belongings. Water is one temp fits all with no adjustment available. They are passably clean. A day pass would be a great way to explore this lovely park and beach but I would seriously rather sleep at a Cracker Barrel.
